Several of my friends use Android-based devices, and practically all of them have status messages set. On many other platforms, this status message is shown in a separate floating box among the messages and updated only occasionally, but on my Jolla the message appears inline with other messages, often overwriting actual messages.

When any of my friends disconnects and reconnects to gtalk (for example due to hopping from mobile data to wlan) and sends one or more messages right after reconnecting, my Jolla treats the status message as one of the messages in the conversation and overwrites the first message my friend sends with the status message!

The original message can usually be seen in the message preview that rolls at the top of the screen when it arrives, but after that it can never be seen again - deleting the status message from the conversation does not bring it back. Anyone else seeing this, or does anyone have any idea what is causing this? All of my Android-using friends have Samsung devices, if that is important (the UI layer should not matter for core Google services, though).

Just tried it from a nexus one and you are right. It's a bug. In the cover though it appears the right message! That google gives a lot of problems after all :P
