Which device? I've experienced this with my Xperia X. The camera module was broken. However, it was not just black at the beginning, it also showed some picture when pressing the phone around the camera.

A new camera module costs $30 on ebay (don't forget to buy the adhesive strip as well) and is easy to replace.

Where are you located? I might look for a source for you.

Here's a helpful repair guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S7ZTfjSUjeM

Same here, ATM I can always fix the issue temporarily by applying some pressure with my fingers around the camera lens. But I assume that workaround won't work forever :-/

I repaired tody the main camera of my F5122 :)) I suspected an alternative camera app had destroyed my hardware.

First I tried to install new codecs, but it was a hardware problem. Do not try this! I bricked my phone and reflashed new firmware and wasted a lot of time.

  1. Make sure it's a hardware issue and no software problem. Go to Settings > Product information > and tap 8 times on build number, acccept warning and go to Hardware test > main camera and flash > ...if there is also a black screen, replace the camera module.
  2. If cameramodule is broken buy a new one for F5121/F5122 (ebay) The main camera is easy to replace and only plugged in. You can see a tutorial on youtube.
  3. In the Xperia Z3 there is also a known problem with the camera module filter, fortunately for me was not.

I am now happy again with my Xperia X with SailfishOS :)))

So guys , just a note : i found the problem... The glass protection of the camera.

The one on the back cover was loose. So i did a crazy trick and I solved the problem.

I used a fiber with a hole above the camera to give pressure. So the camera and the protection glass are not loose anymore.
