I migrated my contacts from Nokia 808, where I had many labels like "note", "children", "Google", "Skype"", etc. Those labels are lost in Jolla, and I can't see any way to add them to contact.

Is it possible to add custom or more previously defined labels to people?

Also, I can't add multiple phone numbers with label/type "Phone/Mobile", so I believe custom labels will provide solution for that too.

I never used labels on people, but I do have Groups on both my N8 and N9, and I would really like to have that... Either way, both these methods do what we want, which is group contacts, or filter them.

This is really important, I've got lots of contacts that have more than one mobile number (eg. one German and one UK) but no way of actually making that clear, other than the country code.

Missing "home" label is annoying.

Further, labels are shown on the phone but not types. I can't understand why we need both types and labels.

EDIT: Now I discovered the "home" label in vcf files is converted to "personal" in People app.

Technically, it is simple to add labels to contacts. Expanding the UI design to make them both useful and easy to use would be a bigger challenge. How did you make use of them previously?

Use of those labels for me was in some of these ways: 1) on older Symbians there was application which showed me eg. "note" when contact is calling. Under "note" I had for example childen/wife name, so if you have 1000 or more contact you can always say "say hello to your lovely <insert name="">" :)</insert>

2) labels for never finished integration with GTalk/Skype/<otherim> on Nokia 808 - something like tis exists on N9 3) for global search within the phone, which includes also text under "notes" or similar</otherim>

I might also add that sometimes it would be useful to customize also the phone number entries' tags.

For example, A friend of mine has a home number, a work number, a mobile, and a second mobile to be used in some situations (which we nicknamed "backup"). So for me, adding to this number a custom label would be quite useful to easily recognise it.

@louisbob

There are a range of options, but it seems people don't know they are there or have forgotten about long pressing on menus and text, which brings up alternate menus :)

Create a new contact, add name, then tap Phone in the list on right hand side - the label shifts left and is color highlighted; Tap 'Phone' again and an entry box opens underneath, press and hold on the newly opened box and a menu opens, offering to ; Change label; Change type and Delete.

Tap on Change label and you get another menu, listing Personal; Work or Other.

Tap on Change type and you get another menu, listing; Assistant....etc, etc,.......

Regards,

That's wonderful! Is there any hidden menu like this in settings or app in Jolla?

louisbob ( 2017-05-13 18:18:16 +0300 )edit

Hidden?, they aren't hidden, this is how most phones menu systems work, short and long presses.

@fmotl I would not find this by myself. Even if it is not hidden it is invisible for common user I suppose. Its great to know it exists. How about include as example to Sailfish OS introducing tutorial? And everybody would know it.

I agree with @_ _ _ _ T A _ _ _ _, it is not natural on the user side that long press on a line edit field will make a menu to appear. On UX design point of view, adding a visual effect informing the user that an optional menu is hidden would be great.

Another thing: I don't understand why pressing the little (+) arrow on "Details" field make a menu to appear? Would not be nice to make this happen to Phone section as well? Then pressing the (+) arrow would make the phone type selection appear, instead of the long press on line edit!

Is it possible to add a note field to a contact? I can presently survive its missing only by carrying with me my old Nokia E90 with ist Symbian System 60!

prometheos de+it ( 2017-05-13 23:48:43 +0300 )edit

@louisbob

Yes, the feature is already there. tap on Phone in edit mode, then long press Phone text, a menu opens which contains None/Assistant/Fax/Pager/Video/Mobile or tap phone to create a new phone number entry and long press the currently empty text input field and a menu appears; Change label/Change type/Delete, edit to your desire.
