There should be an option to export contacts as vcf file(s).

Function is still strongly missed in sfos 2.0.2.51.
Backup procedure is not able to provide it too, because of some (maybe known) issues

One more workaround: You can use "Share" optiion from pull down menu in detail view of contact.

PS: I like this feature, I want it.

And option to export .vcf all linked sources merged

This is essential. Btw: it should be easier to save the imported .vcf-contacts. I had to open and save each of the over 200 contacts separately.

@torcida - I was able to upload multiple contacts from my old SE P1i phone in one instance.

I suppose, this feature just needs to be exposed as pointed below backup feature already does this (as one of the activity).

Yes, there should :)

A possible workaround, if it helps: you can export the contacts from CLI with vcardconverter -e <filename>. This will only export contact data created on the device, since we don't have the right to export data we retrieved from external services.

vcardconverter didn't work for me, got these errors:

[nemo@localhost ~]$ vcardconverter -e xxx.vcf
The 'mergePresenceChanges' option has not been configured - presence changes will only be reported via ContactManagerEngine::contactsPresenceChanged()
[W] ContactsDatabase::open:991 - "Unable to create contacts database directory: /home/nemo/.local/share/system//privileged/Contacts/qtcontacts-sqlite"
[W] ContactsEngine::open:859 - "Unable to open engine database"
[W] QtContacts::QContactManagerData::createEngine:156 - Creation of "" engine failed.
Exporting 0 contacts
Wrote 0 contacts

I imported the contacts from a N9 exported All.vcf file but also added some new People contacts on the phone.

@axaq: sorry, you're right. You need rights to access the privileged contacts database for this to succeed, so either run the command from inside a devel-su -p shell, or: invoker --type=generic /usr/bin/vcardconverter -e <filename>

MattVogt ( 2014-01-23 00:53:20 +0300 )edit

@MattVogt: OK, thanks for your reply. Will the exported file suffer from the same bugs I found in the People backup all.vfc ?

axaq ( 2014-01-23 01:05:51 +0300 )edit

@axaq: yes, backup also uses vcardconverter.

@MattVogt: Running only devel-su -p leads to a priviledge error

[nemo@localhost ~]$ LC_ALL=C devel-su -p
Password:
Enjoy your privileges.
cat: /proc/904/environ: Permission denied
NOTICE: Env value ignored

But running

devel-su -p /usr/bin/vcardconverter -e /tmp/test.vcf

worked.

solution without su privileges : use backup and in the directory ~/.vault/People/data the all.vcf will be there. No longer valid since 2.0.4.14: now you have to open the compressed backup file with some tool and search in the /People directory.

@Jolla-be really different :

@ibins :

where do I find this folder and how? Do I need special rights or the developer mode or apps? Didn't find it with "file browser" and no developer mode...?

you have to install “file browser” from the Jolla Store. Remember to permit to show hidden files in “Settings”.

i had a problem when saving the all.vcf to pc (win7), it started to open it up all of the contacts in separate windows...and when i tried to copy it to an old phone (nokia c7) it only copied one contact...

I took backup of the People and copied it (~/.vault/People/data/all.vcf) to my laptop. Unfortunately I noticed that the backup didn't contain even half of my contacts in People?!?!?! ..and some contacts that were included didn't have the phone number. What kind of backup is this?

did you run backup app before you copied this file ?

Schturman ( 2015-07-03 11:11:53 +0300 )edit

Yes. I did like I wrote. I took a backup of the People. After that I took ssh connection from laptop to phone and copied the all.vcf. The content of the file was a big disappointment. I don't know how it selected what to backup but the majority of the contacts were left out. Pretty useless backup if you ask me... Since the Google sync also doesn't work I don't have any way to get the contacts from the phone. This really sucks..

JTMarjomaa ( 2015-07-03 11:25:49 +0300 )edit

In my case at least all contacts are there. But some are missing phone numbers, some are missing birthday entries I added using the people app.
