I wanted to use a Xperia phone without any Android middleware but I am forced because of the requirement using a current browser now.

Does some one uses Mozillas Firefox directly from here:

https://wiki.mozilla.org/Mobile/Platforms/Android

https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/android/all/

Thanks for feedback!

If you're asking if someone's ported Firefox to Sailfish natively, the answrr is no, at least not a recent one. I've been on this kick as well, my employers insist we use Google Chrome, complete with the website just barely working or not at all on either Android's Firefox, or Sailfish's browser (pictures in particular are my bane). Someone made an effort in 2016 to port Chromium to Sailfish, but it was unstable to say the least.

Great to read, thanks. I will give it a try. Did you used the .android-aarch64.apk or the .android-arm.apk package? I will try the .android-arm.apk version first.

AFAIK all phones that run SFOS are ARM based.

@Leon: Im using FF (68) without Play Store if that's what you want to know. It works fine.
Initially I downloaded it manually from Mozilla. But some time ago I found a 3rd party repo for F-Droid that provides a way to automatically detect and download updated versions from Mozillas servers.

this is the repo's GitLab project:
https://gitlab.com/rfc2822/fdroid-firefox/

You can add it to F-Droid using this link: https://rfc2822.gitlab.io/fdroid-firefox/fdroid/repo/index.xml
