Flight mode from top menu without lock screen code

Please make (like on iPhone) the flight mode from the top menu available without lock screen code. For privacy reasons, relaxing, flights and risk of cell phone radiation I switch to flight mode and back several times a day. It is annoying to always enter the security code.

Other features (torch, volume, camera, ..) are also available without lock screen code so it will be easily possible and saves a lot of time!

If a thief stole my phone, or I mislaid it and somebody found it, I might prefer they couldn't enable flight mode. I might have a tracking app, or I might want to ring it to find its location.

A thief could also switch on torch, let the phone run out of battery and you have the same... Apple also have a "find my phone" function and it is possible to flight mode the phone while locked...

What about Hotspot? Also not possible without lockscreen-code... But would be great if...

I can see arguments for and against. What the iPhone does is neither.

I can also see your argument of a stolen phone. But if Apple have decided to set it free, I suspect they did research and found this to be the best trade-off between usability and security. Maybe a solution for users who do not want to compromise security could be, that they simply do not integrate the flight mode switch in the top menu...

what you can do:

install.situations. react on ambience change, switch airolane mode with a script. however you need to start situations as root, or hardcode the pwd in the scripts..

Thank you. Yes, this is a nice workaround but too complicated for people switching from Android or iOS. I "can live" with tapping 6 times instead of 2 times several times a day. But I can also imagine, that many people getting their first impression after switching will get annoyed (especially because there a other more complicated things like "five-digit-lockscreen-code + enter" insted of "four-digit - no enter" on iPhone.

Much better than "hard-code the password in the script":

  • setup a bunch of SSH keys.
  • on root's profile ( /root/.ssh/authorized_keys ), setup a bunch of forced-commands.
  • from your scripts (or Situations) SSH to root using the SSH keys, only the forced-command will be run.
