Hi @all,

did someone of you noticed a stronger battery drain since the update from Hossa to Seitseminen? Configuration wasn't changed in my XperiaXA2 Plus, no new apps were installed. The loss overnight was with Hossa about 5-7%, now with Seitseminen it is up to 20% (100% in the evening, 8 hours later: 80%). Further there seemed to bee a higher consumtion overdays without changing the user habits (mail is on, WLAN, GPS). 4 weeks ago the Xperia lasts 3 days now it is only 2. This behaviour is only with the Xperia, my Jolla1 lasts as long as before the update. I tried to figure out what could cause the drain, but "SystemDataScope" or "SysMon" didn't gave the enlightment yet.

Sail on!

btw: thanks for supporting Jolla1; with every update since Aurajoki it seems to get a little bit faster (not like android wich is feeled getting slower)

After each update battery drain comes again... https://together.jolla.com/question/206786/xa23039-android-support-unstable-battery-drain/

This is new to me. The most times updates went fine lokking at the battery issue (of course not the WLAN-bug in Hossa). But it's a good clue. I will check if there is something wrong with android-support. Thanks a lot.

Same here! Sometimes the battery is empty after half a day. Sometimes after reboot, the same time it is still at arround 60%

Well, I'm experiencing much faster battery drain with Android support active on my JP1. Normally I switch android off shortly after I don't need it. I observe this for a while 6-10 months (not sure about the version where it appeared).

Agreed with high power usage of XA2 with Seitseminen 3.10.11 and earlier with Hossa 3.0.1.xx. Power consumption only 4% over night 9 hours with 2G and mobile connection off and Andr support off.

But during days 4G +Android support + mobile data on high power consumption with small usage of XA2. Resulting to max two days down to battery charge of 40% final value between charging ups.

I'm not happy for this operation capacity with 3300 mAh batteries. Meaning 30% daily consumption with very light usage. I'm expecting three days a usage with a one charging up. I use email 'always updated' between 10 am to 20 pm daily. Max 5 min speaking plus between 1 to 4 Whatsapp messages read or sent daily. Thus 30 % daily usage. Earlier I got 10-12 % daily usage with Jolla1 and Xperia X. Jolla C had bad problems resulting to equal 30 % daily consumption as Xperia XA2 with SFOS at the moment.

This is happening on my Xperia X too.

Yesterday the battery was drained very quickly; today I noticed the same, and checked the "top" utility.

There is a process called "radio" that is at 100% cpu utiliaztiom. Load average is around 6-7.

The radio process seems to be part of the ophonod program -- at least, the command line asociated is

/usr/sbin/ofonod -n --nobacktrace ....

After the hint of @coderus I turned off Android support. That helped a little. Two days are possible now, but that's different to "Hossa" (3.0...) here 3 days were possible. As you can see in the picture the CPU load has decreased since I turned Android support off. But there has to be another issue for the higher power consumption, but i'm not able to figure out what...image description

Just checked my XA2. 3G network, mobiledata and dalvik on over night battery loss ~5%.

Going under 20% voltage value constantly shall deteriorate battery very soon. Safe area for the minimum value of the capacity lies between 20 to 40% of the maximum capacity somewhere. The higher the minumum value is then better. Perhaps a cathode electrode is going to take part with side reactions between electrolyte when going too down? Or something else with near-solid or polymer state electrolytes? Thus the safe window for the capacity area of the battery is much under <<< 100 %. The higher of the power consumption, the smaller the effective usage time of the phone. The previous is valid for the Li ion batteries.

My XA2 suddenly stopped CPU sleeping. Any hints how to check what is preventing it? CPU sleep

CPU usage raised CPU usage

and lot battery drain Battery drain

Lighthouse doesn't show much CPU load. image description

Actually, in my case, on xa2 lighthouse does not show any cpu activity. But this might be a bug in the app. I could see cpu gauges in process view for very short time when slowly drawing the pulley menu.

745 processes?! I think it's too much, so high battery drain is expected. For example, the average number of processes is 330- 350 for Jolla C and 300 for Inoi R7 (without android support).

Asmir ( 2019-10-06 13:20:48 +0200 )edit

@Asmir Thanks for notice. I'll check that later. My Jolla 1 have bit under 300 processes with AD running. Stopping AD, disabling Wifi, bluetooth etc., enabling flight mode or restarting lipstick doesn't help.

mSorvisto ( 2019-10-06 14:50:23 +0200 )edit

@Asmir ~750 appears to be normal with AD running and ~700 without. I think problem was disabled tray with SIM. I disabled it when unlimited dataplan of my testing prepaid ended. Mobile data didn't stay off, so to be sure disabled whole SIM. Reboot only didn't fix it. After enabling SIM and second reboot everything seems to be okey. 727 process average over 12 h causes 10% drain.

I'll check process count with fresh install, if 3.2.0 is good enough for me to use daily.

I suspect connman and lipstick behind this. One thing I’ve noticed on my Xperia X is that when WLAN is enabled, lipstick lags every few seconds. It also shows up in top with elevated CPU usage, along with connman. The lag gets worse when no known WLAN networks are nearby. Disabling WLAN seems to fix both issues and also reduce battery drain considerably.

Great notices! Good to know. Again WLAN.Thus, just three months 9 days frpm the previous EA update 3.1.0.11. I'm very impressed in of the fast reactivity and effective actions by Jolla.

I have Samsung Note 8 and I am encountering strange battery channel utilizing Samsung One UI. So I decided to change my home launcher into Microsoft Launcher and it did well. - Less heating, Less battery drain, Little battery drop in standby mode. You can try if it also works for you. I need someone to do my assignment tigers

Charlesnorman ( 2019-09-24 11:42:59 +0200 )edit

I did as you suggested - now I get minus 5% instead of 20-30. But for sure this workaround is quite expensive in terms of UX.

kandelabra ( 2019-10-29 12:20:43 +0200 )edit

But on the other night with FP off battery drain was again about 20 percent.

In my case the drain occurs since Hossa, and very much inconsistently: sometimes the phone lasts for days, sometimes it goes from 100 to ~20 overnight (!). I tried to track it down with Battery Log, and found it to be "lying" in its estimates, proving that the drain is not a consistent thing: sometimes it's not there (and Battery Log assumes that there's hours and hours of battery life at this pace), and then it's as if it suddenly wakes the CPU(s) up and milks them out of a good few percent of battery only to go silent again and make Battery Log think that no power drain is occuring.

It's definitely annoying – it would be useful to be able to see which apps/processes have used how much CPU time in the last 24 hours or so.

Yesterday 7th Aug: "Let's hope some fix shall come soon. I have now turned my XA2 4113 to work with 2G network only. The battery drain is terrible both with 4G and 3G with data on. I quess again the battery of XA2 do not stand that drain too long, but is going to be damaged gradually as a result from quickly repeated charging - dischatging cycles."

Helps a little. "But wait a minute, something is wrong..."

Just checked my XA2. 3G network, mobiledata and dalvik on over night battery loss ~5%. 4G seem really drain battery though.

mSorvisto ( 2019-08-08 11:43:05 +0200 )edit

Pls note all day 24 h usage. It's still too much for XA2 phones. 25-30 % /24 h with light use 3G/4G, problems a lot.

N9Sailfish ( 2019-08-08 15:45:08 +0200 )edit

Yes it is. I was trying to point out that it seems not to be just network mode problem.

put a fully loaded XA2 sailfish and a Xiaomi Redmit Go android into my locker. After 52 hours the XA2 is on 18% and the Xiaomi is on 63%, without ever touching one of them.

danfin ( 2019-08-18 14:44:04 +0200 )edit

Battery drain seems to differentiate a lot. Over 49h idle my XA2 dual sim lost 22%. 3G, only mobile data, android running and second sim disabled. Under accounts Facebook sync twice a day, Exchange 15 min. Going to run SystemDataScope for more info.

Can't compare with previous releases since my first install was 3.1.0.11, but now I see minus 30 percent overnight.
