My provider offers an OpenXchange calendar which I'd like to configure in my SFOS phone. Jolla's account panel asks for:

Username / Password / Server Address / Carddav path / Caldav path Provider's guide offers Username / Password / Carddav path / Caldav path

Now what should I possibly type into Jolla's Server Adress field? I am always getting a Oops, problem with account creation dialog. Friendly, but not helpful. Any ideas?

This is a generic question for OpenXChange backends. Answers should apply to all services implemented with OpenXChange, like these and many more:

well it seems to work, after opening separate accounts for CalDAV and for CardDAV and disabling any calendars that contain do-do's.

This is usually not necessary. If you go to the Calendar view, use the context menu on your calendar on the left side and select Properties, you can see your CalDAV URL. Use this as server address, let SFOS detect available content and de-select those elements you don't need (like to-do's).

on my Macintosh, calendar properties will show a CalDAV URL, and address book properties will show a CardDAV URL,. Jolla control panel CalDAV and CardDAV, managing just one account at a time, should be renamed to CalDAV or CardDAV. Also funny: A descriptive name can be given only after having set up a account, instead of giving a name inside of the setup dialog.

When I wrote about the Calendar view, I meant the web interface, sorry. You only need to enter the OpenXChange CalDAV address from the web interface into the server address field when creating the account on your phone, just leave CalDAV and CardDAV URI entries empty. SFOS then detects resources within this account on its own, probably more than you actually want to subscribe to.

thank you, took some time and worked right away!

Would you mind me re-writing this question into a generic OpenXChange one and adding an answer with a concise write-up of the above comments, while still mentioning Hostpoint.ch? Or would you rather do this yourself? I think that more people could profit from this if this question gets rewritten ...

If you go to the Calendar view of the OpenXChange web interface, use the context menu on your calendar on the left side and select Properties, you can see your CalDAV URL. You only need to enter this CalDAV address from the web interface into the Server address field when creating the account on your phone. Leave both CalDAV and CardDAV active in the Services block of the settings, but leave both paths empty, they're optional anyway.

After Accepting those settings, SFOS then detects resources within your OpenXChange account on its own, probably more than you actually want to subscribe to. Deselect every item that you don't need on your phone. In this last step, there is a field to give this account a name (description), which may be reasonably pre-filled, but please have a look at it because it can't be renamed from the GUI afterwards (as of SFOS 3.1).
