We were here with Mr. @eric and were wondering what does Jolla mean to you.

Why are you interested in the company, in the product.

What are the core values you identify to?

Share your thoughts.

Thanks!

Apologies, I spent time answering questions on TJC and did not have time summarizing the status here... if someone had time...

BTW: There was already a similar question/poll here: https://together.jolla.com/question/14616/what-is-most-great-about-jolla-device-for-you-really-the-top-2-3-things-okay-4-5-if-you-just-have-to/ which had been closed by @eric a while ago.

  • continuation of Maemo > Meego > MER
  • Linux on a phone
  • community oriented
  • a new echosystem
  • incredible Jolla/SalfishOs team (with guts and courage) that managed to get a working product on the market and on time
  • freedom of choice
  • swipe UI
  • Unlike
  • Together

"warm fuzzy feeling inside"

&

"something tells me this is right"

&

"together aspect"

(few days before christmas I went to DNA shop out of curiosity to take a look at Jolla phone. I wasn't intended to buy it but after only 1-2 minutes of handling the phone, I took my VISA card, and off I went. I have N9 and really liked it. Was more than dissapointed when Nokia quit offering updates etc. to it. I knew Jolla was (and is) in Beta mode but somehow that's essential part of the curiosity: let's see where this goes. I really wanna support you guys and even in Beta mode, this phone works & feels almost perfect. You have taken N9 usability even further, this forum & together - vision is GREAT and I couldn't be happier phone owner)

And now the question, can't hold myself: do we GO LANDSCAPE tomorrow? =)

  • A phone built upon a true, "desktoppy" Linux stack. The only one of its kind. I'd pay any price for that and accept any shortcoming or imperfection.
  • Independence from Google and Apple, because I think both of their business models are evil.
  • No lock-in (so far).
  • Promising ideas for the Other Half.
  • Something new, fresh and exciting; something morally good so I'm proud being part of it (if only as a consumer)
  • A bunch of people so full of passion that I just have to support them. (Well, passion not only... the good looks help, too ;) ...)
  • A European company
  • A level of community interaction that includes the CTO and other founding members
  • The coolest ringtone in my office

Jolla means:

  • owning the device, for real
  • being able to contribute
  • having a community
  • donate to the people that realy do the work
  • stand out from the crowd
  • pioneering
  • love

but most of all...

The First One Ringtone

"first one ringtone" only available in pre-ordered phones?

t0mps0 ( 2014-01-31 09:48:33 +0300 )edit

The specially composed tones are part of the limited edition (poppy red) Other Half for first batch pre-orders.

  • The UI is just unbelievably great (after 50 days experience)
  • The work towards even better phone is done Together. I <3 this community spirit.
  • Jolla, as a company, has a lot of values I'm supporting
  • Google has simply too much power via gathering info of their users (81% of smartphones in the world are currently run by Google's Android)
  • Future of OpenSource (currently not enough, but I trust on this)
  • People app

For me Jolla is the natural continuation of the Maemo/Meego project. I hope for a better future for it!

  • Real Linux allowing real computing via easily accessible cli which has good set of tools
  • Qt5, app development is quick
  • Community which allows to learn & dev together, Jolla team is interested in getting involved with the community
  • UI which I desperately try to use even in my friends non-Jolla phones
  • Jolla gives the feeling they're actually listening to people, they're closer to the guy on the streets, they treat you as a person, not just profitable customer
  • Hackability (TOH, software)
  • Promises for a brighter future in mobile phone field

I could probably come up with more, but these are the main things.

  • Jolla is not afraid to innovate! (something which cannot be said of certain other companies...) And they do it in the right way! (Looking at you, Windows 8...)

  • Jolla is not Apple, Microsoft or Google! They care more about the community than their profits. Well, I assume they do :)

  • Sailfish OS is just the ultimate os for me, it's brilliant and unique. Totally unlike.

  • Monthly? updates!

  • Finnish!
