Camera quality on Sony devices - could it be improved?
I think camera quality is one of the weakest points in SFOS. On my Xperia X it is almost impossible to get sharp images, in low light situations images become almost completely black and colors are totally out of sync when using the flash.
The camera hardware on the Xperia X is high quality and produces brilliant pictures when using Android. As far as I know, Sony uses very sophisticated algorithms within their Android camera drivers, but these are deleted when unlocking the boot loader and they are not included in Sony's open devices project which SFOS is built upon.
So, what does this mean? When there is no sophisticated image post processing done in SFOS, shouldn't be the image more or less be a raw image? Similar to raw images produced by consumer cameras beside JPGs? If this is the case, all the details should be there. Then it would be technical possible to do high quality post processing within a specialized camera app, wouldn't it? Even an Android app could do the job if there was one which is specialized on optimizing raw camera images. Even sharpness could be better if an app was able to analyze the picture itself while searching for focus.
So is this just a (master)piece of software missing? Or do the camera drivers destroy information so it is completely impossible to restore them?
Your last sentence basically sums it up, part of the software (blob) is missing/not included by Sony, I believe.
I'm also happy to be corrected if my comment is not right!
