Change power key position to make it easier for the user to lock the device with one hand

I find that the power key position makes it hard me to lock the Jolla device by pressing the key with one hand. Thus I suggest to change its position.

I find the current position to be good. I easily reach the power button, doesn't matter if I hold the phone in left och right hand. I guess it depends on hand size/shape and how you tend to hold the phone.

Hey, I think it's always nicer to give a comment or an opposite answer (like I just did) instead of downvoting the question. Sorry for offering an opposite answer @Rigoberto, but using just one hand I find the power button location close to optimal for locking the phone. It could be moved like 1cm lower, but any more and I needed to bend my thumb a peculiar way to reach it (with my thumb at least). On the other hand, then the more used volume button would be located worse (at least for my thumb)

not all people have massive hands like you have, I have big hands already and need to stretch to reach it... depending on what I do it is the volume rocker down I reach without moving the phone in my palm and there is a just to it as I reach just the lowest part of it

@chemist I must admit I have quite a big hand :) I edited my answer just a bit after your comment.

On my N9 I used the palm to lock the display, when I held the phone in such way it was awkward to reach the button with my thumb. I think the N9 placement is close to optimal.

@Mohjive so true, now you say it I remember that I most of the time did not use the tip of my thumb...but I just tried around a bit and after a few apps in use I find the very center-position suiting. I tried to hold the device in a way I cannot loose it from my palm at any time and still be able to reach the topmost part of the volume-rocker. More annoying are on-screen controls as I cannot reach the top 1cm of the screen at all without loosing the full grip on the case.

Revisiting after experimenting with my Jolla a bit.

@simo: When I hold the phone in a way that I can type with my thumb I can't barely reach the bottom part of the volume rocker without switching grips. Either you hold your phone in a way that is unnatural to me when you type, have very big hands or you switch grips between typing and locking.

You can lock the screen by swiping the screen from top, no need to push the power button.

For me the side power button suits also better than a top power button.

That's even more difficult to do with one hand on such a (unnecessarily) huge display.

@nodevel Yep, thats why the bigger device of a friend of me has the button on the side

masmrlar ( 2014-01-31 09:43:20 +0200 )edit

@jamose first you have to do a swipe from the side to get back to the home Screen, than you swipe to lock the screen from top. there are cases in which it is easier to press the power key. so this Suggestion here is not that bad, as some People want it to be.

@masmrlar Yep, I reacted to the original answer, not your post (you were just a second faster:) ). I agree.
