Is there a way to quickly tell which WLAN the device is connected to?

The only way I have found is to disable WLAN (using the toggle point on the Settings main screen), enable it again and let it search for networks again.

The same method can be used to switch the current WLAN network, but this requires to disconnect, which is not ideal for several reasons.

There is another question about this here but that is about APIs, I am talking about the UI.

Not really an answer to the question, but a tip. The What's my IP app will show the current ssid in it's cover.

Unless I'm missing your point, under Settings/WLAN you'll find the AP you are connected to should be at the top of the Saved Networks list and in a different colour. To connect to a different WLAN just pull down the pulley menu on that screen and select "Connect to Internet"

There is a possibility: go to system settings. Long press on WLAN, add to Favourites - Than you have there teh WLAN-Settings and not only the Toggle. Here you can change with pulley menu. just chose connect. And then the WLAN you want. Not perfect bit at least...
