Bluez 5.52 adds support for multiple bluetooth A2DP codecs, and allows switching between codecs to choose the active/used audio codec. The related APIs (MediaEndpoint, RegisterApplication) have been declared stable in bluez 5.52.

Bluez 5.52 allows using alternative bluetooth codecs (such as AptX, AptX-HD, LDAC, etc), not just the default A2DP SBC codec. Actual codec libraries are not included in bluez itself, instead they're needed on the bluez clients (=pulseaudio). Pulseaudio patches to support multiple bluetooth A2DP codecs are still a work-in-progress, and currently being discussed and reviewed on pulseaudio mailinglist.

Bluez 5.52 lays the important groundwork, adding the required low-level interfaces to support multiple A2DP codecs for higher quality bluetooth audio. Thus it'd be nice to get bluez in sailfishos upgraded to version 5.52. Other bugfixes are obviously included aswell.

Sailfish is currently on 5.50 for Bluez, and no doubt an update will happen in due course, but it sounds like we're better off waiting for the pulseaudio stuff to be released and ready so we can make use of the new bluetooth audio codecs
