Hi, Alessandro here from Italy (pls be patient with my 'high school' english!). I need help!

I have been a proud owner of a jolla 1 phone, that died two weeks ago (RIP). I replaced it with an used XA2 dual sim H4413 (how big is it!?).

The OS I bought last week (I don't remember the number, the stable release for XA2, I think) was full of bugs (at least for my needs) so I decided to try 3.3.0.14. I felt better so decided to go further and try to install google hangouts (video calls could be usefull because of n-CoViD-19 :( ...) .

Now I face some problems: on first reflash aliendalvik worked out of the box and I could install whatsapp and telegram. But then I messed everything trying to install microg. I followed this howto: https://together.jolla.com/question/209300/how-to-microg-in-sfos-31/ and then every android app was not working properly, for example whatsapp closing randomly.... I was able to install hangouts and make one video call (then it stopped working). So I reverted phone to 'factory setting', upgraded again to 3.3.0.14 and then aliendalvik never started until I tried this: https://together.jolla.com/question/217488/howto-mindthegapps-on-xperia-xa2-32012-32120-33014/ (I think I resolved because in some step I deleted aliendalvik configuration files... but who knows?). Now aliendalvik works BUT whatsapp and telegram don't work as espected.... for example I miss suggestions when I type and telegram coplains it miss play services (but works). Hangouts doesn't work because it miss gplay serv but I'm a bit frightened to try to install microg again...

Please help me on understanding wich howto should I read, or wich procedure to follow. What I really need is: aliendalvik to install whatsapp and telegram. What I'd like is to be able to install hangouts and a decent calendar.... but these are not necessary.

Thank you very much in advance, Alessandro

3.3.0.14 is an early release. Kind of beta version. Not recommended for regular users until public release is announced.

I agree, but the stable one was worse... at least for me....

I must update my own thread :). Five minute ago 'Store' proposed me to update google play services, and this resolved the problem with hangouts, that now works! But my original question remains: wich could be the best approach in my situation? first link? second link? another one? Thank you, Alessandro

If it works, don't touch it. But I'm afraid the gapps approach requires update at every OS update.

first link should do the trick of properly installing microG normally, so the second link is not necessary. Not sure about updating google play services when using microG however... I'd rather avoid that, as microG is not the same as play services. Forget about a 'decent calendar', SailfishOS can't handle this. Adresses and to-do list work however.

MicroG works well for me (first link, instructions from DrYak) However, I had trouble to properly set up MicroG under 3.3.0.14, see How to enable system package replacement with MicroG in 3.3.0.14

Therefore, if you are using MicroG, please install everything under 3.2.0, enable system package replacement under 3.2.0 and only then update to 3.3.0.14

So far, all AndroidApps I tried are working fine with MicroG

MicroG uses AlienDalvik and only adds Google Play Services

.... waiting for update to install....
