leaving Sailfish / export adress list to iOS

I am leaving sailfish for different reasons (my xperia x is getting old and having to "flash" manually another phone is no option, additionally there is still no Wifi calling support (which is important for me) and many android apps just dont work. + over the time I have been using it there was unfortunately not any new useful Jolla app developed in my opinion). Thank you anyway for developing a "third" operation system and the experience. Is there at least a possibility to export data on the phone (photos, contacts) to apple iOS? Thank you and all the best Stranamore

At least with contact you could go into people app -> pulley menu -> select contacts -> pulley menu -> select all -> pulley menu -> share and send them to yourself via email. According to this you can import vcf files. Photos you could export to your computer via a USB cable and then import them back on the iPhone.

Good luck in the future!

It's surprising for me that some people seem to use only their phone to store important personal data, such as contacts and calendar, without any backup. My phone is far too fragile to depend on it that much.

I'm not a friend of cloud services per se, but connecting one's devices to one central instance that reliably stores contacts, calandar, conversations and others, seems the most logical step to me. MS Exchange does that job in my case, but will soon be replaced completely by my self-hosted nextcloud instance.

Speeking of nextcloud: that would also be my suggestion to the OP, because it's the cloud solution that can be used to share personal information with virtually all desktop and mobile operation systems. Once setup, changing devices or operating systems will be much easier.

@ziellos and I am using still the buteo-syncml with Bluetooth. No need of Cloud, Exchange or massive overhead. No need of WLANs, routers or whatever. I'm doing it like it was done 15y ago. Unfortunately I think I am the only one on this planet doing it.

If you are the only person using this technology, @deloptes, you have to tell @stranamore if and how he can use that to transfer photos and contacts from SFOS to iOS.

The easiest way IMHO is to make a proper BackUp and extract from the SFOS BackUp file the folder "people". In "people" you will find a file called "all.vcf" that contains all your contacts.

Extracting the compressed backup file can be done with the SFOS file manager that hows up if you go settings -> memory -> memory card -> sailfish_backup_2020-04...

Having extracted all.vcf from sailfish_backup_2020-04... /people you can easily transfer the file to your other phone.

Of course, everything can also be done with any pomputer by simply copying sailfish_backup_2020-04... to your computer and extracting the tar-folder with tar or zip

I never tried this in practice but would a nextcloud account be a solution? From the jolla blog:

The [nextcloud] support includes the most comprehensive collection of features available so far with any integrated account, including backups, contacts, calendar, images and notifications.

If iOS supports import from iOS it should be smooth.

For calendar and contact data the easiest way is to sync with an CalDAV/CardDAV server. iOS supports this nativly out of the box, so no need for an extra app. I sync these data between my J1, an iPad and my Linux desktop without any hazzle over a selfhosted server on a raspberryPi.

For other data nextcloud will be fine (using the nextcloud app on the iDevice).
