How are you solving the problems of apps that are not available natively for Sailfish OS and no Android alternative is available due to the lack of Google Play Services alternative?

Is there any way to have ridesharing/ride service apps like Bolt(Taxify), Uber or Free Now working on Sailfish OS?

I'm so sick of constantly having to call a taxi operator and I really have no other option on Sailfish OS... I'm using Sailfish OS Rokua 3.3.0.16 on an Sony Xperia XA2. I've also tried installing MicroG, but was unsuccessful at it...I'm genuinely afraid that lack of apps will slowly kill Sailfish OS in time and it's such a pity for me because I can't get used to the Android UI/UX, it's painful...

Bolt, installed from Aptoid, has worked fine for me so far with Intex AF OS v. 3.0.0.8 and Google Play Services installed.

@Nautilus I've had them also on my Jolla 1 phone, but AFAIK the Intex phone is still using Android 4 compatibility. Sailfish OS 3 on Xperia XA2 devices use Android 8 compatibility. So there is a big difference here.

@Pohli I know that Jolla lasted more than Nokia, but this attitude won't keep them alive for long for sure :) I hope they don't think the same way. P.S. I know you're sarcastic :))

If you want to be free of Google, then reserve some time and try microg again. It might work. But of course, you can also install Google Play Services. Worked on my old phone.

  • MicroG: works with Uber and a couple of others in my experience (e.g.: not all electric scooters, in my experience. Some like lime work, others not. But as they constantly pop and go, it's hard to keep track). That's what I use (and even wrote a howto). As long as you have UnifiedNlp (so Uber knows where you are) + Google Cloud messaging (so Uber can receive informations back from the server) working, Uber should be usable.

  • Google Play Services do work on AlienDalvik 8. The main problem is that /system isn't just a directory that you can easily write into, it's now stored in a read-only system.img file that you need to manipulate your-self. Somebody wrote a how-to too.

Yes, it does, but you can't use the map features. So if the default localisation doesn't work well you need to constantly guide the driver by talking to him, which is a bit painful if you don't know the city and the street is a long one.

Surprisingly, Bolt CA.5.73 finally successfully installed on my XA2. For whatever reasons, previous versions installation would always get almost to the end, then display "Install failed" message.

App seems to work well, but it's having trouble access Location Services. I'm currently running MicroG with UnifiedNLP, everything and all permissions seem enabled for Bolt.

Is there anything extra I can do to make Bolt's location services request work better? (Without it, seems like scooter functionality can't work)

Thanks but Lyft, I think, works in US only. I need it in Europe/Romania
