Does installing a new RPM from the same app's upper version 'updates' it?

Hi! I have one question about RPM's of side-apps (from openrepos.net for exemple). When i think of Android's APK files, if i have firefox version 1 installed, and download a newer APK of firefox version 2, i just click install the APK of the version 2 and firefox "updates" from version 1 to 2. It does not of course install firefox 1 and 2 side by side, or it doesnt fill more space on the device than if i had updated it via playstore.

So my question is: Is is the same of different with an RPM app from openrepos?

Thanks a lot for the enlightenments!

It is the same behaviour.

Although, IIRC the packager needs to explicitly define that behavior by specifying that the package Conflicts with itself. Otherwise the files are just installed on top. But pretty much all packages are configured like that.
