Right now we have 3 options in the phone:

  1. Prefer 2G

  2. Prefer 3G

  3. Prefer 4G

What I'd like to see is a more customizable settings. First, there can be 3 checkboxes: [X] Allow 2G [X] Allow 3G [X] Allow 4G

And also a list from which you select what to prefer. Or maybe not a list, but an option to re-arrange the checkboxes which would affect their priority.

PLEASE ALLOW USERS TO SET ONLY ONE NETWORK MODE UNTIL SFOS CAN'T SWITCH CORRECTLY.

Maybe this option can help stopping the phone to get buggy when needed to switch from 3g to 2g.

I think this would be particularly useful when you have 4G and 2G but no 3G; right now I suspect the Jolla wastes time and effort looking for 3G when there is none to find.

@shallimus, if you are connected in 4G, it doesn't look for 3G, and if you want to use 2G, you can check "Prefer 2G". "Allow xG" options doesn't have any sense...

I want to use 3G only! But due to weak signal the phone tends to switch to 2G too often. I have my n9 set to 3G only and it's good.

@Bnurb, why do you think it does not search? The phone is supposed to constantly look for other stations in all bands even though it's connected and select what's best in its opinion (correct me if I'm wrong).

Wow! Thanks for the hint!

From what I've seen using an Iphone 5s, if you take a call whilst connected to 4G it will drop down to 3G to handle the voice. If you have the phone in 4G only, will you get calls? Same with forcing to 3G only, if you lose your 3G signal you then lose voice and data rather than having both with slow data.

But it's don't work with 1.1.9.28

now this patch even not available.....its annoying that when there is full 4G network and it still changes to 3G which is having only 20% network......I can not use mobile data even there is full range of 4G

Yeah where the patch is? This patch is very great that it is must have patch absolutely. I would like to donate for developer for his great work! Sadly Jolla didn't (yet) implement this feature to sailfish...

Yes, it really came, but there's only "prefer" options, no "allow/deny".

Vuubi ( 2014-06-10 13:01:04 +0300 )edit

@Vuubi this would complicate the UI for little gain. What you cases do you see that would require allow/deny individual cellular technologies and setting priorities?

Aaron, sometimes my Jolla selects 3G and sometimes 2G even though 3G is also available. I had an HTC phone before and it behaved the same way if I didn't force 3G which I can't do on Jolla. And I'd like to force it. As for 4G, I haven't been able to switch it on. Other Jolla users of the same operator (but from other cities) could do it. My SIM card is a new one, too (replaced with a microSIM it in January in order to fit into Jolla) and there's no need to explicitly switch on the 4G service at the operator's website. The operator is Megafon (Russia), it's included in the supported list. The proposed switches could serve as a simple way to debug.

@Vuubi, did you check with *507# if your Megafon SIM supports 4G? Just in case, since microSIM not always means 4G support.

SergeiStPete ( 2014-06-14 20:16:20 +0300 )edit

@SergeiStPete, thank you so much for the number, it's really unsupported on SIM. I'll go change it tomorrow.

UP ! So boring :( It seems Coderus doesn't devellop on SFOS anymore,it's sad, him patch was really perfect ! 4G 100% time with more network mode patch, with stock SFOS .. it's a coinflip everytime.

its annoying that when there is full 4G network and it still changes to 3G which is having only 20% network(20% network not useful either for calling nor for mobile data) ......,now days In india all service providers upgrading to 4G, so now they have good 4G network than 3G

Earlier patch was available now that patch also removed....I understand Jolla may have valid reason for giving "prefer 4G/prefer 3G" options but please give "only 4G/only 3G" for the sake of those jolla users who are facing this issue please do something...

Before someone starts screaming, this question is backlined in the original so nothing gets lost.

Original but sleeping and not talking about 4G. Why not reopen this one and close the older ?
