Idea: rough battery level indication by colour

It's easy to not pay attention to the battery level while using the phone normally, since it's hidden between two screens and requires a peek to read off. I figure making it a bit more prominent and eye-catching when low on power would be a good idea, and I think it'd mesh well with the current look-and-feel. I imagine something like change the font colour to yellow when <25% and red when <10%. The former is important, because at 10% there really isn't much battery power left so if you need to move a bit to find a charger you want to be notified before that point.

Yes, I like the idea of a Battery Energy Level Ambience. Should be possible to make :o

This could be worked around by making the battery level show more prominently without peeking.

@vasavr I'm not sure if I'd call that a workaround. I wouldn't mind that, too, but I think colour makes for a more eye-catching visual indication in either case. As for a low battery ambience, that seems like an interesting idea. Something to ponder about.

I think it would be good to have an option in Settings for whatever percentage you want the battery indicator to turn red. (Personally I'd like it quite early, say 50%, when maybe I have a chance to do something about it, but others might prefer a different value).

I had thought of a similar thing but not quite:

The notification LED, below 10% should softly blink (every minute or so, not less, to save battery) with a color ranging from:

  • DARK YELLOW - to distinguish from mail notification (at 10%)
  • to RED (at the level at which is estimated you'll really need to find a charger, to avoid auto-shutdown).

This would have the added bonus of being visible always, whatever you're doing, even when the screen is off (which will save a lot of battery, at least in my case, has I find myself constantly waking up the phone just to check how much battery I got left!)

EDIT: Just thought of a better option still, that's informative, yet, battery saving:

How about when you flick the phone, from back to front, it softly blinks the notification LED with a color representing the battery charge, ranging from:

  • GREEN - battery's more than 80%
  • DARK YELLOW - battery's less than 30%
  • RED - battery needs charging ASAP

With it relying on flicking, it won't spend any more battery than needed with the blinking of the LED (usefull when battery is low
