What purpose serves the globe symbol in the people app? It's the first button before the letters of the alphabet and it is "inactive" all the time. What sort of contact do I have to create that is listed there?

The same with the '#' at the end of the alphabet: Is is a list IRC or XMPP names?

The globe shows friends who are online (if you have created a Facebook or other account that supports this). The # shows contacts beginning with a number.
