Call forwarding does not allow punctuation in phone number

Most of my contacts have phone numbers in the format +44 1234 56789 or +44 (1234) 567 890 or +1 (123) 456-7890 etc. (because Outlook likes to do that sort of thing). I can select those contacts in the Phone app and call them without any trouble.

However, when I am setting up call forwarding, if I select a contact, I cannot set up the forwarding. I have to delete all the punctuation (spaces, parentheses, etc) to be able to set up the forwarding.

The phone app needs to delete the punctuation before trying to set up the forwarding.

By the way, if the call forwarding input field is of the form +44 1234 567890 (because I selected a contact with a phone number in that form) it seems to be impossible to put the cursor to be after either of the spaces so I can delete the space. I can put the cursor before the space, or after the digit following the space, but I cannot put it after the space. How am I supposed to remove a space from the input field?
