As Jolla user, I want to be able to group apps into folders in the Launcher grid.

When the amount of installed apps grows finding and managing apps becomes difficult (also, because their relative position cannot be.fixed).

I managed to have only one page for app-launcher on N9 and would like to keep it with jolla the same!

I have tried many android-software and now list is many screens long and quite difficult to find needed program. It would be nice if its possible to hide games to own folder.

Folders are absolutely needed! Already couldn't understand why the N9 didn't have them right away... Thanks Jolla for adding that to your Roadmap :)

Maybe it is possible to sort apps into folders according to how they are categorized in Jollastore (and Yandex maybe)? That way it is done automatically, maybe with an option to override the default if needed.

This was done in the N900 with the catorise app and works great.

I'd prefer something alike what the N9 had, which worked great and was easy to understand/use.

use some horizontal pull which is not used in launcher would be cool, lemme explain :

when we create a group (using pulley by example) it creates an horizontal section header with group name on it, and containing only one row of icons, which is horizontally scrollable if more than 4 icons in it !

I would like to see a folder system similar to the alphabetical contact-slide-out within the sailfish contacts app. Much of the code could be reused! So, if you click on a foldericon in the applist, all icons below the row containing the foldericon get pushed down to make space to reveal the foldered icons.

Just came here to post this idea but seeing I'm late thinker upvoted this. I'd like same kind of folders in Gallery too.

pilq ( 2014-05-07 22:31:53 +0300 )edit

right, its a convenient, kind of unlike handlng of "hidden items", worth implemeting consitantly wherever folders are need! And it totally integrates to the "vertical scroll dogma".

mosen ( 2014-05-08 07:18:28 +0300 )edit

IMHO that would have been a much better way to integrate applications folders.

Glacier UI has it all right (better folder icon, better unfolding).

Would it be possible to reopen this issue and discuss it with someone at Jolla ?

Thanks ;) i still hope the current implementation is just a fast "cop out" to satisfy the community and have some kind of folders fast. Final Folders should at least follow the ui guidelines completely, or better be awesome somehow else. What we got now feels like back to symbian...

^ Couldn't agree more !

Another idea on how to "solve" folders - make it possible to add an app to multiple "folders"/views. Then an app could be in two or more views at the same time. Why implement the artificial limit of only one place from the physical world?

One way to implement this could be by adding tags to applications and filter views on tags.

This would still be usefull to implement! It would be nice to have e.g. the browser in lets say "Office" and "Network" folder :D

Hi.

I want to make another suggestion and found nothing like this yet. I think instead of grouping apps in Folders we should another thing.

My Idea (I don't know if it is already there) is:

We should have complete Screens instead of Folders to group apps. Then we should be able to give names to these app screens. Maybe there should be the possibility to swipe from left to right (I think Android does this). Maybe there could be Pulley to quickly choose on screen. So you can have one screen with games, one with android apps, one with tools, one with whatever you want.

Android screens - ugly non-ergonomic solution. Click is faster then move screens then click. Trust me, i have grouping on N9. Very fast and easy. Any app run for TWO clicks only. :)

What about reveal launcher source code ?

For me is better modify it .. with leave other ideas untouched .. than create totally new app. But this is only way for me (make it self) for now.. I want really use this phone. But this is horrible with 8 pages launcher .. :)

Hi. I avoid Android-apps or uninstall them after having tested them. But anyway, if there ever woukd be app-folders, please, don't make them a default.

I prefer having the option to sort my apps alphabetically to having folders.

Sorted or not .. who cares? Useless .. :)

Kaacz ( 2014-03-20 22:54:00 +0300 )edit

The option to sort apps alphabetically would be a nice feature. There is a question already with only a handful of up votes so it doesn't look too likely to be implemented in the near future unfortunately. https://together.jolla.com/question/10559/sorting-the-application-menu/

What about this kind of folder? Swipe to open folders should be really great :D (and as long as SailfishOS want to swipe everything, it won't be disappointing for users)

as long as SailfishOS want to swipe everything They don't want us swiping the keyboard ...

swipe is more complex then click.. i prefer click .. any "foldered/grouped" app by just two sipmple click - this is about ergonomy. I have it on N9 and it's perfect. In case of other solution for apps grouping, I want source of launcher and I will make self my version.

yeah, push to folder like n9 is better than swipe.... than if we scoll up/down there close the folder automactly
