It's nice to see that google talk status is integrated in the people/message application.
However, many of my contacts use skype i.s.o. google talk. It would be nice if you could add your skype account to Settings -> Accounts, and then have the same integration as google talk.

Skype is a proprietary protocol that requires a license from Microsoft. Right now, since Jolla is a really small company, Skype integration, like what has been done on the N9, is not likely to happen. Jolla needs to have a license, and it is unlikely that Microsoft will sell one to them.
However, you can install Skype for Android, if you really need Skype.

the following is mentioned: "Using the public API: Use of the Desktop API is free for commercial and non-commercial application development, assuming you abide by the terms of the API Terms of Use."
However on the same page they mention that due to 'technical improvements' part of the interface will be retired later this year:
quote: "some features of the API will stop working with Skype for desktop. For example, delivery of chat messages using the API will cease to work."
So it would not be wise to add support for Skype until it is clear if they are going to offer an alternative.

Moreover, they are only compiled for x86, so they won't even work on the Jolla.

Also, since Microsoft took over Skype and removed all the supernodes thereby for all intents and purposes removed the security away from Skype - who on earth would like to use Skype for anything useful any longer? Nokia used to include a default SIP capability, and cSip is readily available albeit the security could be improved. There are also better security capabilities with H.323 based videoconferencing nowadays since Skype got mangled.
There were an inquiry about support for webRTC some time ago. WebRTC would allow to use services like appear.in in order to make video calls. The service runs in browser and allows max 8 person video chat simultaneously. You need to have webRTC support for browser.

You said it. In my social circle everyone gave up Skype a long time ago, especially serious people who care about confidentiality of what they say (like businessmen etc). I've just logged into my account out of curiosity and the only online contact out of ~250 was echo123.

New Post: I made a accounts plugin (mostly using coderus existing code for icq) to support skypeweb with telepathy-haze. My repo contains all neededp packages. Just install haze-accounts-extensions-skypeweb.
Old Post: There's a Libpurple Plugin for Skype using Skypeweb that could be usable on Sailfish via Telepathy-Gabble, I'm using it on Arch Linux with KDE Telepathy already and it works very good, except status and image recieving.

Good catch. But that could still be an Android-app notification. If I run Skype on my Jolla (as an open multitasking window) and miss a call, I get the same notification in "notification-view". So there would appear be a real need of native Sailfish handling of Skype. And maybe, the release of SFOS2 will bring some news in this matter?

so sad that there is currently no native Sailfish VOIP apps(like SKype) in Jolla Store, and Jolla only recommends using Android VOIP apps, why cannot they do the similar thing as what Coderus is doing with Mitakuuluu(proprietary protocol whatsapp client)?

I can buy for few money skype for sailfish or a clone compatible skype on jolla store if exist.

native skype could be attractive for tonz of customers wich are thinking about Jolla but they still waiting for more features such a skype or some poker without android support installed, as you not bringing your ex on dinner to meet your new love, somebody doesnt want to invite his exdroid into the Jolla :)
