bug playback system gone offline

My playback systems were gone completely - mediaplayer did not even start playing the file - alarmclock did not play sound from toh-ambience (mentioning to show that internal and external soundfiles did not play) and so on - I am off to work so I did not check what it actually was and rebooted.
Any hint what to check when it happens again?!
Happened the first and only time (yet) just today.
