There is no support for taking an image directly from an Android app (edit: not for all applications), so I would take an image with the camera and then from the Android app try to find it from the gallery. The new images are not shown in the gallery when accessing through an Android app. The images become available after restarting the phone. I assume restarting the Android-runtime would be enough to show the images, but haven't tried as just closing the Android apps doesn't seem to fully restart the Android-runtime.

New images should be available when accessing the gallery from Android apps.

I have this problem with Android apps: KakaoTalk, WeChat and QQ.

Sailfishos version 1.0.3.8

Edit: A related question on the same issue: how-pics-and-videos-are-synced-to-android. There is also a workaround in the comments:

"One workaround solution is to use KillDroid (thanks @pykape). With this native app possible to restart Android service on Jolla. After restart all the new pictures and videos are visible in Android apps (for example in Zenfolio)."

Workaround instructions:

  1. Enable developer mode
  2. Enable "Remote connection" and set the password
  3. Download "Killdroid" from Jolla Store
  4. Run "Killdroid" and set the password, the one you set in step 2.
  5. Press "Restart Android service"
  6. Restart your Android application

Thanks @jliebe for pointing me to the relevant question.

I've also had this problem with the Google+ app.

Strange thing is, Android apps (like Barcode Scanner) can use the camera, but some others can't (like c:geo). Of course the gallery is separate, but I think both issues should be fixed.

Other apps which really need this functionality to be useful: eBay, Plume (insert any IM or similar app here)

This is really annoying when using the automatic picture upload feature in Dropbox.

Same problem - sometimes - with WhatsApp.
