[Suggestion] Allow to cancel the launch of an app

Sometimes it happens to me, that I accidentally open an app from the app-launcher, even though I wanted to open another app or I just tapped accidentally on a icon.

On the N9, I could just close the splash screen of the app to cancel the launch and continue with other stuff immediately. On the Jolla we have to wait until the app window is shown, before we can close it again. Depending on the app, it can take several seconds until the window is shown.

My suggestions to improve this behavior:

  • Allow the cancellation of the app-launch, while the app is not loaded completely (e.g. by tapping on the app's "placeholder"-cover)

and / or

  • While the app gets launched, allow to scroll down to the app-launcher, and open the app "minimized" (same behavior as when we scroll up to the lock screen while the app gets loaded).

Update 10.02.2015: Bump this topic up again to get some comment from a sailor if this is something they will implement...

I think that apps should only get focus/"jump up" if the home biew is active. If launcher view, or if another application is made active the launched app should stay minimized, i.e. apps should not steal focus. Then this issue of having an app jumping up in your face by mistake is removed.

Thank you for your comment. I voted for this idea. But I think, there is a difference between opening an app on purpose and just want to do other things while it launches, and opening an app by mistake. On the latter, I just want to close the app immediately - like I described in my first suggestion.

Yes, a way to cancel the launch is a nice feature addition as well. There's a time between the launch and the application is active, where SailfishOS shows the application cover, where it should be able to add a tap for cancel functionality. I think this is a good idea.

how about installing the no home carousel patch? It allows to swipe any unwanted app away (to the left). Is that too slow for you? (to me, it does not happen very often that I want to close accidentally started apps)
