I just updated to 1.0.4.20 Ohijärvi, and all Jolla apps (settings, people, store, gallery, and so on) do freeze instantly. This is quite disturbing I'd say :/

EDIT: apparently it's due to Open Repos being activated

P.S. See https://together.jolla.com/question/33598/official-announcement-important-steps-to-do-before-updating/

Not happening to me.

EDIT: I have four repos (Penguin, basil, coderus and konekoodi) enabled, and I don't have problems with any apps.

It is not happening to me either, although I have Open Repos.

SSH + pkcon update might work

there is a new setting for 3rd party apps which may cause it? no problems here.

See release notes: "If you do have openrepos enabled on your device, disable all of them before you do the upgrade. Otherwise there's a high chance of your device getting broken."

disabling just takes huge amount of time... and one by one...

What does "broken" mean? Irreversibly broken?

yeah but that was not mentioned in the release note when I did the update :P

Many users have been waiting this update and will do it as soon as they see that the update is available without reading release notes before. I'm one of them, unfortunately, and now not a single app works. I cannot even reset, because settings does not work. Looks like I have to locate nearest support point tomorrow....

@Hannu I did read the release notes as soon as the mail came on the developers mailing list, updated (with openrepos enabled) found every app freezing and then got an email "Disable openrepos". So even if you read the release notes that doesn't count …

According to Twitter, connecting in SSH and then running version --dup fixes the problem. At least it fixed mine :)

I have only mac, and I've no idea how to use SSH and pkcon update since I'm not a techie. So what can I do with it?

Do not use "pkcon update". It's an incomplete update. Use "version --dup".

sounds correct @pycage, it updated a few more things. Package management on the Jolla sounds a bit esoteric to me -_-

Disable the OpenRepos repositories to do the update like described in this thread: https://together.jolla.com/question/33581/how-to-disable-openrepos-repositories/

You could try accessing the device via SSH (if developer mode is active). If it isn't, maybe recovery mode may help:

Unplug USB cable and turn off device Press volume down and power on the device Plug in USB cable and using USB networking telnet to 192.168.2.15 or 10.42.66.66 and follow the instructions

After becoming root (via devel-su or via recovery mode) you can disable the openrepos using ssu:

  • first list all your repos with ssu lr
  • then deactivate each repo with ssu dr <repo_name>, e.g. ssu dr openrepos-llelectronics</repo_name>
  • last do a system upgrade again: version --dup

DISCLAIMER: I havent tried the whole process myself as my Jolla was still bootable. I did the removal of openrepos and the system upgrade, but nothing more
