Ringtones in 1.0.4.20
I've stored my Ringtones in /nemo/Ringtones Previously (1.0.3.8) whenever I wanted to add a sound to an Ambience and clicked in "Search for music" the phone also detected the sounds in the Ringtones-folder. That doesn't work anymore in 1.0.4.20 :-( I tried copying the Ringtones-folder inside Music to no avail, I tried to copy the individual ringtones (WAV-files) inside the Music-folder to no avail. Which means that with the current "non-beta" you simply can't add your own ringtones anymore.
Any ideas?
The only thing that did work (but is probably NOT the right way to do this) is copy my ringtones into /usr/share/sounds/jolla-ringtones/stereo/
Unfortunately only the first ringtone that I copied is seen. :-(
For the people who want to copy (one) personal ringtone, the commands needed are below
either do: devel-su cp Ringtones/ringtone.mp3 /usr/share/sounds/jolla-ringtones/stereo/
or goto the folder with your ringtones (e.g. Ringtones)
--> cd Ringtones
--> devel-su
-----> type the password that you set up in settings -> Developper Tools "Set password for SSH and root access"
--> cp ringtone.mp3 /usr/share/sounds/jolla-ringtones/stereo/
It seems Jolla's ringtone managment is seriously fucked up :-(
I was wondering if there's a way to revert back to 1.0.3.8 or even 1.0.2.5?
BTW, fortunately the Ambiences that I created before the upgrade which had changed ringtones STILL have the changed personal ringtones.
Hi manut - this is a useful post. Perhaps to add 'How to' to the beginning of your question title? If you do RESET your Jolla, it defaults back to 1.0.0.5 then you can upgrade to 1.0.2.5 > 1.0.4.2 (1.0.3.8 is excluded during update process or at least it was for me, this was last night). Regards
Spam Hunter ( 2014-03-18 16:05:06 +0200 )editAll ringtones (mp3) I copied to /usr/share/sounds/jolla-ringtones/stereo/ are still there and offered for selection the same way as the original Jolla ringtones.
Step by step instructions, how to copy ringtones into the system ringtones directory can be found in the comments to Jolla sounds not well-engineered as notification sounds.
jgr ( 2014-03-18 16:25:22 +0200 )edit@ jgr: I copied 4 or 5 files into that directory only one shows up. I copied them also in Music folder (as explained in my question) NOTHING shows up. I'm going to reset my device as per Markkyboy's suggestion and will remain on 10.2.5 for now. I liked the original coverscreen with lighter background and non-glass covers. It felt more stylish IMHO :-)
manut ( 2014-03-18 16:57:59 +0200 )edit@manut: You mentioned wav files, I by purpose noted that I am talking about mp3 files.
With my original post I only wanted to indicate, that it does work on some Jollas. On the other hand, this means, this may be a sporadic bug or a problem of your setup.
PS: I would not return to any earlier version. Sooner or later you will run into incompatibility problems. Stylish or not is partly a case of getting used to it.
jgr ( 2014-03-18 18:05:39 +0200 )editjgr: it's definitely NOT a problem with my setup. I've reset the device and did the upgrade a second time to try to pinpoint what the problem is. With regards to MP3-files they MUST be larger than 1 second. The trick to get them recognized as ringtones is to edit the MP3-tags, set Album to "Ringtones". THEN they will work. I've created (again) a Ringtones-folder inside Music and now they do work (except for the short soundclips that I use as notifications). I'll experiment further on them.
