I really feel that we need Jolla specific headphones for our devices to be able to release its full potential while the phone is in pocket etc. So! What features would be essential? I feel that tiny display would be extremely cool! Also full music/phone call handling is needed. Bluetooth maybe? A tiny fm-receiver included?

Others feel a need for Jolla specific headphones?

Yeah I was really upset after I noticed that Jolla didn't add some headphones to the package and I am still waiting to see some Headphones at the Jolla Store.

I have never used the supplied headphones with any mobile phone. Nothing beats my Koss QZ900. Or the Sennheiser PX100 II, if I want lightweigth.

I was more disappointed that the jack does not support both types of headset-jacks (swapped gnd). In terms of waste it is a pretty good idea to not ship chargers, cables and headsets with devices, I have 6 wall-chargers (2xN900, 1xN9, 2xSamsung, 1xJolla) - 3 native, 5 additional uUSB cables and 4 native headsets (where I cannot use a single one for Jolla as two are NokiaJacked and two are SonyE)

There are only two essential feature for me. Sound quality. Build quality. We don't need any more cheap disposable POS headphones that will end up in a garbage bin sooner or later.

i would go a step further and ask for an OH with a good quality D/A that reads directly from the device, no compromises in sound quality. Such OH will make the Jolla phone an ideal sound device.

To me the build quality is the priority. The audio quality doesn't really matter if the earphones fall apart. But audio does matter to me.

I'm glad the Jolla didn't come with a headset. I'd rather have them to keep the money instead of wasting it on some POS. Those for which it matters already have bought a quality headset. I didn't even try the set which came with the N9 until a year after I bought it, at which point it was confirmed it was worthless.

In-ear ones is to me a thing of the past. They hurt in the ears and sometimes fall out too easily. That crap that comes with new phones usually ends up in a drawer.

Make real good ones instead, but in a nice design and with build quality.

I have to say, why not a little Scandinavian solidarity: Jolla and Bang and Olufsen ? A simple wired, good quality ear phones, with a mic' mute button. nothing else is really needed.

expensive brand. Asus made some little bass-booster for their laptops with BO. Nice, but even if they are quality stuff I think you pay a little extra for the brand too. Its like the apple-tax.

@Larswad: yer you're right, B&O is an expensive brand and sure you're going to pay for the "brand" but i've to admit that the quality is incredible high. Personally speaking, i'm going to buy a B&O earphone soon (not decided which model yet) but if was possible to have it "Jolla" personalized i could be happiest!!!

Sound quality is direct proportional with the price and here people will always disagree - what is enough for me is not enough for the guy rocking 200$+ worth of headphones. So maybe have a few price levels.

What I feel it's ESSENTIAL on a phone is a remote that works! Having to pull out the phone to anwser a call/mute the music is really silly. Volume control would be even better but call answering is essential. It's the most annoying part of my Jolla for me.

Using a pair of AKG 450s with the handset cable and these are truly excellent. Jolla branded headphones would be a waste of time unless you are prepared to pay an extra €30 to €50 to really do the device justice. Jolla took the right approach with having a minimalist setup both in Apps and Accessories. The vast majority of headphones supplied with mobiles are thrown away after a couple of days or weeks because generally they sound atrocious :-)

From my point of view, the simplicity approach of the phone-design and the OS-design need to be met.

How about as simplistic as the N9 Headset? (I don't like those in-ear plugs, weird feeling having something stuck in your ear canal all the time) For BT Headset I like the Plantronics M165 (M155) design (although I'd like to have a volume-rocker instead of a button and the answer button is in the wrong place).

I am using the Headset that is looking the same like for N9 (WH-901) and it is looking really nice with the Jolla - the Aluminium headphone's jack harmonise with Jolla's metal frame. :)

In my opinion, Android headset compatibility would be much more natural choice for Jolla. After all, the Jolla phone is basically built of Android hardware. Maybe it's just me, but I try to avoid Apple compatible devices whenever I can. I just don't want anything to do with Apple.

Jolla is compatible with the iPhone headsets, Sailfish just does not support more than the simplest play/pause function. The volume controls are not usable.

There are only two different standards, most modern Androids/Nokias and the Apple devices use the same standard. Older Nokias (like the Symbian^3 phones) used an incompatible standard. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phone_connector_(audio)#TRRS_standards

My friend challenged me to think "unlike" with the headset issue. This is the best I could come up with.

The modular wired headset
Starting backwards from the ears. Choose any stereo headphones that has a 3.5mm plug. Use your favorites or POS disposable ones. The headphone plug is then inserted into a microphone cable (that might be shipped with the phone). The head of that cable houses a 3.5mm stereo socket, a noise-cancelling microphone and three buttons (plus-multi-minus). The other end is an android-compatible 4-pole 3.5mm headset plug.

When not attached to the Jolla phone the above setup could be connected to a high-fidelity USB digital-to-analogue-converter (DAC) that has a matching 4-pole headset socket. The DAC could also be Jolla branded and offered in the shop.

Coloud Pop headphones are good quality for their (relatively) cheap price, have the right pinout, will work when button support is added, and Nokia just partnered with them to make some in-ears that matched the Lumia colours, so I imagine they'd be open to Jolla doing the same (black and poppy red / aloe / white?)

They'd be nice to include in-package for new users (perhaps a little unrealistic price-wise), but I'd definitely buy some as extras from the store too!

it should have a microfone or sth on the wire of headphones that allows me to talk with my friend (phone call) and thus i don't have to hold my jolla in my hand near mouth.
