[poll] Alien Dalvik fee for ported sailfish

Maybe we could help Jolla to estimate the importance of offering a buyable "Alien Dalvik fee" to have the option of installing this great feature on coming ported devices.

We do not know how much the Myriad Group charges Jolla for every sold Phone, but maybe we could give a hint on how much Jolla could charge us to be able to buy a single license by polling on that question?

I'll start with the obvious 5 options, 5€, 10€, 15€, 20€ as answeres.

This would be entirely up to Myriad to sell you a license with the software and not Jolla.

They are selling licenses per phone to jolla right now as i understand. So, you are right Myriad would have to allow Jolla to resell extra licenses for ported sailfishs, maybe via (coming) Appshop. But that is "just" a matter of negotiation and licensing between Jolla and Myriad and i doubt Myriad would not be willing to take our extra money on some basis if they were asked the right way...

I'm pretty sure that once Harbour gets paid apps feature we will get paid Alien Dalvik there. ;-)

I would rather go for the lower values, because Alien Dalvik unfortunately does not make Jolla phone fully Android compatible. Some important apps, used for banking, ticketing don't work (they detect some rooting, and refuse to install). So this is a nice piece of software but with limited benefits: €5-10

I don't think Sailfish without Alien is a viable option right now. It's also very hard to justify paying for something that your phone could do for free before you went on to try this new “free” operating system (Sailfish). And Nexus 4 is what, $200 these days? I'd argue the higher price points (€15+) don't make sense in the context of that price. While €5 is probably not a sum that'd as such put people off, the hassle of the transaction probably will (how would that even work?). Finally, half the point of trying Sailfish is to see how well Android apps work on it. Considering how it's in everyone's interest to gain some market share for Sailfish, I guess Jolla could convince Myriad to bite the bullet and give off licences. They aren't going to lose much money on it. And when we see OEM devices with Sailfish, they can negotiate licencing fees with the OEMs. So if at all possible, please leave end users out of the mess of paying for a fairly essential bit of the OS.

+1 for your thoughts! Selling "Android Support" would only work within a coming paid app Jolla store and only make sense for "self porters" where a pricetags over 5€ to 10€ is unrealistic. OEMs distributing Sailfish would be a whole other topic!..

This topic may become really relevant in the near future. A personal "give us 50€ and run it on all your devices – here's the rpm" would be something I'd seriously consider at this point.

it is hard. I don't have a nexus myself. if I had, I might want to test and see. I don't want to pay while trying out the whole thing. if not straightaway, when will I pay?

App stores like Google Play allow you to return app during some period of time after purhase. Nothing special on that other that Jolla Harbour does not support payed apps at all so far. They need to implement that basic feature first, maybe it will make the native selection more complete also (more interest to devs to port their apps).
