Jolla doesn't work with b-mobile visitor sim in Japan

I visited Japan last week, and bought a b-mobile visitor SIM. (with 1GB transfer limit)

URL: http://www.bmobile.ne.jp/english/

However, Jolla doesn't seem to find the NTT DoCoMo's network at all, and the manual network selection dialog only shows the Softbank's network. The sim should be a quite normal 3G-only sim without any call features.

In the end I used the sim with my N9, and while it mostly worked ok, it sometimes complained about "sim not provisioned error #2". Also on friend's iPhone, connection quality indicator showed 0 bars.

Does that contract work flawlessly with any cellphone? The kludge is strong with this one...

Well on Galaxy S3 it worked flawlessly, and on iPhone 5S it worked as well. (minus the quality indicator bug. We theorized that maybe iOS bases on the GSM quality or something) I'll also assume that it works on the other handsets they have listed on their website.

Just curious: why would it be a kludge? I thought these kind of data-noly services are well within specs.

Did you set your Jolla to 3G mode? As fare as I know Japan dont use GSM anymore.

"Prefer 3G" was activated.

I had a similar issue with the „Yamada SIM powered by U-Mobile“ sim cards, (which inside the wrapper are just NTT docomo cards). We were able to solve the basic connectivity issues today by:

  1. Choose the prefer 3G mode
  2. Always allow Data Roaming in “SystemSettings > Mobile Network”
  3. Edit & rename the automatically added „u300“ mobile data connection in the same menue by long-tapping on it
    • In my case, this connection had APN data hardcoded for b-mobile, which were wrong and I had to override.
    • Dual Stack did not work, choose IP as protocoll.
  4. Activate the renamed mobile data connection you created.
  5. It's normal that the reception bar displays not available / zero as it only seems to show the strength of the voice quality of the network, which is of course not available with a DataSim.

I can now reproduce this dalvik bug and can't use the data in android apps, though. :/

Sounds like an operator issue. Googling sim not provisioned error returns the following explanation. Either the sim card isnt activated on the carrier, is suspended, or the phone is having issues contacting carrier for activation.
