How many Jolla phones have been manufactured by now? [not relevant]

The IMEI can give us a hint about that. According to http://my-symbian.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=44794, 6 digits from 9th to 14th is the serial number. Could someone who recently bought a Jolla post this number?

It effectively could be interesting to have some statistics about it.

Thanks, I would say that this figure is quite possible.

Got my Jolla on Dec. 23rd, 2013 and my number (digits 9 to 14) is 008279 ... this rule means only 1 million devices per type would be possible, is that realistic for the rest of the market ?

Manankanchu ( 2014-05-19 14:44:54 +0300 )edit

rounded to 17600. early February

Near 12500, end of Dec

I find that low too, but it seems realistic, compared to the number of download of the most downloaded app: Android support. Before the 1.0.3.8, I often had a look to the number. It was around 16000 in february, growing by ~100 each day. So it match with both @Anz's number and @kold1981's number: roughly 100 day since 1st week of february, multiplied by 100 activations/day = max 26000.

Could someone doing a factory reset take the time to go in the store to check the current exact number of Android support downloads before installing 1.0.3.8 to confirm that?

My recently purchased has rounded 18200, manufactured Dec/2013.

Edit: wrong serial scope corrected (last/least significant digit is Luhn padding digit, not part of the serial)

Another one, purchased 2 months before, has rounded IMEI-serial 23000 (= 4.800+), Manufactured Nov/14 afair. So at least the recently purchased was a refurbished one. I was amazed about the second sealing-sticker right before I opened the package and feared it's a refurbished one, because Li-Ion-batteries are aging even when not in use. The serials of the battery differ up to the 5th digit, but I don't know the serial construction, it's not decimal nor hex, so I don't know the significance of the 'B' of the "new" instead of the 'C' of the one purchased two months earlier.

Since the battery seems to be in a good condition, I haven't officially complained, but I am not really amused at all! At least in some european countries, goods older than 2 years mustn't be sold as "new", even if they never left the stock.

Btw, both came with 2.0.0.10 and the price is fair, but they should tag them beeing "not new"

the oposite of new is used

Well, not beeing native english speaker, I'd claim "old" to be the opposite of "new" ;-) Of course "used" is the term for 2nd hand goods, but it isn't 2nd hand for sure! It's kind of "matured", which pretty much describes both, the hardware and software, but I guess no marketing guy would ever promote "factory-updated" devices as matured, I guess...

what about aged or well hung? ;)

I don't think the phone you received is a refurbished/used device. The reason the seal was broken and resealed is that device has been flashed to SFOS 2.0.

Cheers

The second sealing sticker was probably put there by Jolla when they upgraded all devices in stock to SFOS 2.x

Does this number really work? Mine is about 32400 bought last February, MFG date says 12/2014. This number is more than those sold more recently.

I got 31600, MFG says 10.2014, Do they really produce such small batches? Original Phone (First one) has 13500, MFG says 12.2013

015900(rounded), bought in march 14. But two times warrenty repair, so hardware may have changed. Up to now all numbers seem to be plausible. And so round about 30k devices are sold.

My Jolla rounded serial number is 025900 (from IMEI), purchased in August 2014, manufactured in March 2014. A sticker inside shows a separate serial number GBL3E00397000.

One year later, you got a phone with an older S/N than mine... Could you please check the sticker inside for manufacturing date?
