How breakable is the phone? [subjective]

When I buy a new phone I usually watch a drop test on YouTube.

Has anyone managed to smash theirs and what did it take?

If someone wants to sacrifice a phone in the name of science, perhaps you could do a drop test video?

There's this Finnish drop test / advertisement (for an offended repair shop).

I've accidentally dropped mine, actually it slept from my shirt pocket to a concrete floor. The phone was in a fitbag pouch and landed vertically on the open side the hight was about 60+ cm. The impact is hardly noticeable mark on the corner next to microphone grill. I was annoyed, but at the same time surprised that the phone was not damaged. I would prefer a silicon case like the N9 one to protect my phone from accidental drops. The other concern I have is the screen, the phone size is large for most jeans' pockets.

My screen cracked when in my pocket. First time I have broken a phone in 20 years of mobile ownership :(

Mine has slipped off my pocket several times while sitting down, from a half a meter to ceramic floor. TOH is of a fairly flexible (and thus, soft) material and receives dents rather easily. The phone itself is more resistant. The screen has received a small scratch from when I had it in my backpack, prolly got scratched against some pen or something. So I'd recommend a protective film for the screen and wish there was some protective silicone OH available.

I dropped it once about 60cm on the concrete floor of my balkony. I have a small dent in the other half on the right corner, but for the rest no damage.

I drove my C-Class diesel Mercedes over my Jolla. All I needed was a replacement screen.

So the body is tough and will take a knock, the screen itself is generally scratch resistant but not immune.

Well, it was only a C-class. You should try with an S-class ;-)

I don't care what car you drive, but could you please check the "minor edit" box when editing your posts? I don't want to get close to a dozen notifications just because you made a typo...

What provoked you into the decision to drive your mercedes over the Jolla? What bug caused it?

@Kayakist - Apologies for multiple updates, was struggling to embed photo. C - Class reference was to give weight, in this instance circa 1695kg @Larswad - Bug was external in this instance, namely my wife! Long story short - Wife's phone died, she borrowed Jolla and was in a hurry to get out of car and dropped some stuff. She picked everything up except Jolla which I then reversed over. Her fault? My fault?, it happened, nobody got hurt. If anything she was more upset than I was as she knew that I had been waiting months for the phone and within a week of getting it was broken. Anyway I noticed that it was still active, i.e the notification light showed when charging and I could see partial movement on screen. So went through Jolla Care repair process and received working Jolla and crushed screen as shown in picture. I must conclude that the Jolla is tough, I am tempted to try same test on a Samsung Galaxy 3 to see how it fares :-)

@Robbie Apology accepted :) I have to say, that if the Jolla really was still at least partially working after being run over by a car, then the phone is a whole lot tougher than I would have guessed...
