If I e.g. read a document on the browser, I often forget to touch the screen to prevent it from switching off. Activating Jolla returns back in lock screen.

Now, having to double tab, swipe up search for app tile and click to activate it is a lot of moves. would prefer double tab, swipe up and return to last active app

Very good question! A good guesture would be a swipe from the middle of the screen towards left or right border.

I think pushing up should keep it's current behaviour, but a push to the side would make sense to return to the previously active app.

First entry in pulley menu... go to last open app - or keep the home-screen away till you really minimize or close an app - or have some kind of reader flag for developers where you can set a stay-on-screen-when-active flag

I'd prefer a (user configurable) grace period after which the phone deems the previous activity forgotten and sends that app to the background.

I really like the push-from-side idea, which nicely mirrors how you minimize a running application (and makes the "minimize, interact with cover action, go back" process more seamless), but unfortunately it conflicts with the ambience switcher (after favouriting ≥2 ambiences).

Thanks this is (was) already in our TODO list.

With the latest update we are introducing a 30 seconds timeout after the screen blanks that will allow you to do exactly what you described

Please consider also this when implementing.

They seem to be rather unrelated things to me from implementation PoV

Oh, right. Read comments and stuck to ideas presented there.

Maybe could be solved with adjustable time frame => When screen goes black and you double tap screen before time is up, the phone would wake up with the same application on fullscreen that there was. If you would double tap after time is up, the behavior would be like it is now.

Could you outline what desired behaviour is on the TODO list?
