backlight changes without reason [duplicate]

While reading, browsing at night (dark room) the backlight dimmed, then a blue LED turned on. After a few seconds the brightness came back and the blue LED disappeared. Battery was about 70%. Is it a software issue or hw? (note that I need to contact care for other reasons, need to know it worth a mention too or not.)

It is a feature introduced with the last update. Quoting @spiiroin:

Now that both automatic and manual brightness control allow using close to minimum display brightness, it is possible to end up in a situation where it is not possible to make clear visual difference between "on" and "dimmed" display states.

In those cases the blue led is lit so that the display does not blank without any warning.
