Images saved in Android apps don't show up in Gallery... and thus can't be used in Ambiences
It would be great if the Gallery shows all images on the system.

So basically, Gallery should also check /data/sdcard/ for content? Correct me if I'm wrong
I guess so, but this might be too technical for me. Is there a way to do this?

Write this into terminal:
ln -s /home/nemo/android_storage/* /home/nemo
This link deletes/deactivates itself after a reboot. I don't know how to run a command during bootup, but if you can add this to the device bootup, it would link the android storage with the Sailfish's storage every boot.
you can also use copy with the option to make links: (you must be in the /home/nemo -folder to make it work as what you are looking for)
cp -rs /home/nemo/android_storage /home/nemo
