The new web shortcuts in launcher (available via Browser -> Add to Launcher) don't behave as they should.

How to reproduce:

  1. Open the browser
  2. Open a website (for example http://jolla.com )
  3. Add it to Launcher (Add to Launcher)
  4. Open a different website (for example http://talk.maemo.org )
  5. Launch the previously created shortcut from the Launcher

What should happen:

  • The shortcut's website (http://jolla.com) should open in a new window (preferred behavior) or a new tab.

What happens instead:

  • A new blank windows is launched with 'Loading...' text on its cover and closes after few seconds.
  • The view switches to the original browser window and redirects the current tab to the shortcut's website ( http://jolla.com ).
  • You lose whatever you had currently opened in the browser (i.e. http://talk.maemo.org )

IIRC, this is the way external links are currently handled by the browser. There's a thread here somewhere about this. It's not specific to the web shortcuts.

I see. However, I think that this question is still important, as the addition of such feature should be acompanied by appropriate changes. Launcher shortcuts should be treated as web apps, while external links can be launched in a current web browser window.

I'm just saying it's not a 'bug', but the intended behaviour (at least for the time being). The thread is here, by the way, you might vote for it in the central place where it gets more attention:

Has it ever happened to you (@nodevel or anyone else) that the new cover (with "Loading...") doesn't close after a few seconds but gets stuck on the home screen? Lately I've been seeing this behaviour whenever using Launcher shortcuts.

@ssahla Yes, that has happened to me couple of times on Uitukka, but I was under impression that it wasn't related to web shortcuts. You might be right, though.

Workaround for this "feature": Open a new tab in Sailfish Browser before touching the launcher bookmarks.
