[bug] GPS location service not available 1.0.8.19
There is a bug in the location service on 1.0.8.19 where the GPS location service is reported as being unavailable to applications, even when location services are turned on in the settings. Opening the native map application shows error message saying Positioning is turned off, see Settings -> System -> Location
.
This obvisouly affects all native Sailfish and Android applications.
GPSInfoQt shows over a dozen satellites in view, none in use, location accuracy ~300m, so just cell towers. MaepQt shows location, but looks to be only from cell towers as well. The native map application won't even go to the map as the Positioning
service is off (which it isn't).
The bug appeared this morning (15.7.2014), yesterday immediately after the update the GPS was still fine, I was able to record a track with sports tracker.
Can anyone confirm this or is the GPS on my phone broken?
The release notes for 1.0.8.19 here do mention possible GPS crashes in known issues, but no way to solve it. So far I've tried
- rebooting phone (3 times now)
- turning
positioning
off/on/off/on - killing
android runtime
- turning
flight mode
on/off - shutting down the phone, take battery out, wait 5 mins
Possible Solution #1 @Swl got the GPS to come back online by going to the Location settings when an application is requesting the position of the phone, and then switching the GPS off and back on.
Possible Solution #2
I managed to get the GPS to come back online, so this is not a hardware issue. All I did is restart the phone repeatedly, I think after 4th restart GPS came back. GPSInfoQt
, MaepQt
and Sports Tracker
(android) all work, native maps application does not, still shows the same error about turning positioning on.
Possible Solution 3
Update maps to 1.0.13
. The Jolla store application did not show that there was an update available for Maps, so I had to navigate to the Maps application page in the store and select update
from the pulley menu. The extended description of the application in Jolla Store shows what the latest version is and what version you have installed. Thanks to @Kari for pointing to the update.
###Correction
The native maps application does work (as pointed out in the comments) it's just that the landing page shows an error message. Swiping right to the map does still show the correct location though. Just to be clear, this is after the reboot, when the GPS is back online.
Same issue here :( Having some weird connection issues too. Have to diasble and enable wifi to view available networks etc.
Wizah ( 2014-07-15 12:08:40 +0200 )editI already rebooted several times since the update and it works well for me in Android and native apps.
juju_des_highlands ( 2014-07-15 12:14:05 +0200 )editAccording to the knowing issues discribed in the release notes, several GPS-crashes in native and android apps are possible. Maybe try rebooting several times or power off, unplug battery, wait a few minutes replace and start again.
drummer12 ( 2014-07-15 12:17:22 +0200 )editSame here, after updating last night, no GPS available, keeps saying "activate positioning", and it is already activated. Rebooting has not affected.
Samuel M ( 2014-07-15 12:24:55 +0200 )editNo problem here, GPS works as it always has.
