I purchased my jolla yesterday and was hoping to update the os and download other things. This is my first smart phone and i am not technical minded however i love the phone just wish it had a simple option to connect through usb so i can download and update my phone instead of using wifi which i do not have!

Hope someone can help

many thanks Z

Unfortunately to do so you would need to install developer mode first... And I don't exactly know how to set up ip forwarding on windows, but it should be possible.

Thanks i have tried enabling ip routing in windows 7 with the instruction given but still no luck i only get the wifi trying to connect on my jolla. Is there anything else i could do to get this to work?

If you have a laptop you can use the wifi teathering: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2/general/guide-alternate-to-ad-hoc-wi-fi-network-t1924911

If you don't have a laptop or a wifi usb dongle(you can buy one cheap) then you will probably need to go to a friend that has wifi. I found these two links that could help you but it seems that you need the internet connection for the setup:
