I'm planning on doing a factory reset as my Jolla has been incredibly laggy and hangs a lot. I've been trying to create a backup for a few hours now, but it just gets stuck on the preparation stage. I tried the btrfs recovery to see if it helps, but to no avail.

Many things seem to be not working currently. - Camera won't snap photos - Videos won't record - Browser crashes - Certain android apps doesn't work anymore - And of course, the inability to create backups.

Suggestions?

I'm aware of this article, but i'm not sure if i should do the balancing when i don't have a backup of my personal data (contacts, messages, etc).

@ad I did this balancing already several times without any issue so it is kind of save but anyway do it on your own risk... :)

backups might take lot of space, check your /home/nemo/.vault directory e.g. du -sh /home/nemo/.vault

If your space is exhausted backing up your Gallery will not succeed. I can recommend you to connection your device to the external computer through USB and copy from your device the contents of the Pictures and Videos folders. Or you can copy it it to the SD card. After you copied all your data to the external storage (computer or SD card), you can delete pictures and videos using Gallery application. Then you will have more free space and can backup other data, just do not forget to deselect "Gallery" in the backup UI before clicking "Create" button, so your backup will contain everything except Pictures and Videos. This backup data can be copied to SD card from the backup UI (e.g. before btrfs balancing or factory reset).

BTW, you can check what data takes most of the space by means of useful "Space Inspector" application (can be installed from the Store).

Also do not forget to check Jolla Supportpages regarding backup, e.g. https://jolla.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/201804906-How-do-I-make-a-backup-and-restore-it-
