Simultaneous networking/connectivity & Meecast crash

New one for me.
Meecast spontaneously closed when I used the scroll-to-next-location active cover. The phone lost all connectivity at the same time. I tried reopening Meecast, but it just closed as soon at it had finished loading every time (as applications in Sailfish tend to do, once they crash once). Tried to re-enable wifi or mobile data, but couldn't. Mobile data was not greyed out, unusually, but trying to activate or disactivate it in settings did nothing at all (phone still showed 2G network signal, but no data). Wifi, same, and going into the wifi networks tab informed me that "Networking is not available, please restart the phone."
Things worked again after rebooting, but all my locations and settings preferences in Meecast were gone - wiped.
Presumably some kind of bug in Meecast ... but why it would then knock out all networking and force a reboot, one can only wonder.
Also, why when Apps crash in Sailfish do they mostly continue to do so until the device is rebooted?
