e-paper / e-ink TOH [not relevant]

asked 2013-12-29 14:25:30 +0300

updated 2014-03-27 00:25:06 +0300

As I'm missing basic infos permanently available on the screen (like on N9, but very limited there), I'd love to see a

TOH with an e-ink screen

which is permanently on and displays infos like time, network connectivity, emails, tweets, ... things you don't need motion, color, hi-res graphics for ...

BTW: not really my own idea ;) ... see http://yotaphone.com

This is also not an idea of Yota because it is obvious ;) Also there was implementations of 2 screen functionality before.

Very interesting idea!

I miss low power mode display very deeply and I have created post about returning LPM (https://together.jolla.com/question/2038/hardware-feature-request-is-it-possible-include-standby-lpm-screen-in-next-hardware-revision/), but e-INK toh would be quite nice substitute also.

would be awesome, like how to turn a phone into an e-reader when needed, Plus the pending notifications feature, of course

Sounds interresting, but I'd rather have what Nokia did with lumia - use lcd without backlight to show notifications. Power consumption should be very small and results are pretty good. Not sure if it's possible with current jolla hardware, though.

@koudi Seems not to work on Jolla hardware due to LCD concept (IPS vs. AMOLED), see discussion on https://together.jolla.com/question/937/glance-screen/ ... second answer from Dez

If jolla releases the TOH SDK and documentation, maybe we could build something like this adafruit oled display in a TOH

Kent Display once did sell e-Ink displays to maker shops like [1]. And they have a version that allows to write on it! [2] That would be an awesome TOH! :) (not being a display though!)

Maybe you should take a look at this project by Kimmoli (thread from TMO). He's also building an OLED TOH.
