When I go on Snapchat it give me a pop up saying "This app won't run without Google Play Services, which are missing from your phone." I tried to download Google Play Services from the app store, but still get that message. I am still able to use Snapchat without it, so that's a bit confusing.

@coderus Google Play and Google Play Services are not the same. I had to install both Google Play and this apk to be able to use the public transport ticket app for Copenhagen.

It's not same, but you can't install play store without installing google services framework, and main google play article is fully covering your question

OK, then it may have been edited since I followed the howto. After having installed the app I mentioned using Google Play, I got an error "Google Services not available" - or something like that - when launching the app. After installing the apk linked to below, everything worked.

Then try to add suggestion to bigget question and take attention on your problem.

Will the Services be officially supported any time soon?

Moreover the question above, is there a reason why the Google play store and services are not officially supported (YET?) ?

Probably because for official support the phone must first be approved by Google, which is not very likely as it's not a native Android phone.

It is hard to get any usefull applications from non-google store. Every bank application or buying tickets is available only from google play. You can only choose between Apple Store and Google Play. For now those few apps is the only reason to switch to Jolla.

I realize this is a late message, considering when this was posted, but if any of you are still having this issue, simply visit http://randomi.info/p/jolla/com.google.android.gms-(3.1.36).apk and install that.. it'll fix the play services issue.

What is that apk exactly? Will it be sufficient for e.g. Chrome to run in Jolla ?

Upp15 ( 2014-07-24 18:08:35 +0200 )edit

I just tested it on mine, and chrome will install and launch fine.. it didn't seem to want to load any webpages however. I don't have time to investigate further.

The apk just gives you the google settings and services icons and fixes the annoying prompt issue.

I can just ignore the message by tapping above or under the dialog box. That way I can just use snapchat.
