Ringtone per contact
It would be great to hear who is calling by assigning a special ringtone to a contact.
2018-05-02 Edit: We reached version 2.1.4.14 and this is still a missing feature... :|
We have moved to a new Sailfish OS Forum. Please start new discussions there.

Or define contact groups and assign ringtone for a contact group.
Contact groups would also be very nice. My E71 had this feature and it was quite useful: I instantly knew when it was someone from my family or from my job or something.
Artemiy Solopov ( 2014-08-17 11:24:13 +0300 )I'd also opt in for the contact groups solution!
Additional advantage: If the UI would allow to only show contacts of a certain group, it would be much easier to find contacts within large lists.
Another feature I used a lot on my Palm devices, separating private from business contacts and so on.
Regarding the custom ring tones for contacts request, it would be nice to have both: custom ringtones at contacts and contact groups, that may have custom ringtones. :)
Alex-S ( 2015-03-06 15:28:52 +0300 )IMHO both requests are a MUST. 1.) Ringtones for Groups >> but 2.) it could be overwritten with individuals. For example: Group=Family >> but "Wife" has a special tone ;)
PizzaProgram ( 2018-04-03 23:34:26 +0300 )this feature was "standard" for old Symbian, and lost in n900 / n9 ... i'd like very much to see again! :-)
n900 doesn't have it by default, but there is an extension for the adress book, named "custom ringtones for your contacts". maybe it can be done likewise in sailfishos?
manes ( 2014-02-01 18:50:03 +0300 )Yes, you're right. I have used it so often that I forgot it was not a stock application ...
R. ( 2014-03-22 22:57:39 +0300 )For me is state of the art! Because all other smartphones can do this. A Ringtone and SMS-Tone for each contact... so i'm a bit suprised that jolla can't do this from the very beginning... Some parts looks from the future, some from the past... Hope they will change this in further realeases of the OS!
I would also like to be able to set per contact SMS ringtones, as a first responder certain SMS messages require my immediate attention and being able to differentiate between them and other messages would be cool.
(I'm pretty sure a part of the technical infrastructure is there the contacts.db contains a ring tone table....)
You can use https://openrepos.net/content/coderus/personal-ringtones application
Still no changes in this? So no way how to differ from work and personal contacs? It's pitty :-/ such a basic feature which we don't have in our SailFishOS :-/
Yes, it's ridiculous. How about finally after so many years fixing some basic features still missing?
bocephus ( 2019-04-08 22:38:44 +0300 )agree - instead of implementing crappy gestures or other useless stuff. But wait this is not the worse one missing
deloptes ( 2019-04-09 00:40:31 +0300 )So not supported in 3.0.2.8 then?
I assume writing a script to poll for new mail and do custom LED notifications based on the sender shouldn't be too hard? Not sure if that's considered related or not.
hj ( 2019-04-09 22:42:19 +0300 )Old question, voted high even with not too much updated. Bringing this up for a while, and suggesting this to the roadmap please?
I'm suggesting Jolla to add a roadmap tag with this answer, based on the high vote/view rate on this question (wanted feature)
simo ( 2015-04-18 13:04:50 +0300 )Cool! Thanks. Maybe it finally find its way into one of the next updates :)
barmeier ( 2015-04-18 18:19:37 +0300 )I suggest this old question, too. Coderus had same trial in Openrepos Warehouse but it did not worrk as it should in Jolla 1. What comes to old ideas, Jolla, please put SFOS UI smart watch into matkets. :) :) :)
N9Sailfish ( 2018-05-04 19:12:50 +0300 )This basic feature (already available on my old Nokia 3310...) would be great and very useful, but unfortunatly, it seems that it is not yet implemented in 2017, even on Sailfish X... Does anybody know if Jolla is actually working on it ?
Sorry for posting several times this answer yesterday evening, there was a problem with the website. I have deleted myself the other copies of this answer.

I think that a possibility to set an ambience (or ambience specific tones) to a certain contact or contacts could do that too.
Ruutana ( 2013-12-29 18:58:12 +0300 )I was very suprised that Sailfish didn't support this already... Contact-specific ambiences would be even cooler though, changing colors etc. and then if someone usually shouts into their phone, you could set their volume lower than usual :)
McFox ( 2014-02-03 17:57:25 +0300 )This function is ESSENTIAL for me too...
deedend ( 2014-08-04 20:29:11 +0300 )Yep, this should be easy to implement and is a real increase in comfort.
Bimberle ( 2014-10-09 13:35:46 +0300 )abd there should be a possibility to disable tones for anyone except predefined contact e.g. if u do sports but u need to be availible for onecor two persons
