Pretty straightforward, I'd like to have a space in phone numbers for easier readability.

To be exact the request is to add in the VKB of the People app the space character. Contacts with numbers having spaces synced in are accepted and work.

@saturn Actually I would like to see an option to force the space even when the number was written/sync'd without spaces. It would be really tedious task to go through all contacts and update each number with spaces.

Just wondering, but what kind of spacing would you like? And are you sure it would work with all kind of numbers? International codes being 2 or 3 numbers, phone numbers being longer or shorter, local differences for mobile and land lines etc...

@Philippe I think normal space or thin space or even hair space would work (https://www.cs.tut.fi/~jkorpela/chars/spaces.html) if jolla can display these characters. If not, normal space would be sufficient.

As to how to add spaces, I would do it like this:

  1. add space after international code
  2. add space after area code, if possible (I guess we can't have list of all area codes in the world)
  3. then divide the rest of number into 3 groups - start from end, add space before last 3 characters, then before another 3 and leave the rest of the number as is.

So in my case, I would end up with phone numbers looking like this:

  • +aaa bbb ccc ddd
  • 00aaa bbb ccc ddd
  • aaaa bbb ccc ddd
  • aaa bbb ccc ddd

which is much easier to read than +aaabbbcccddd

I have no idea how much phone numbers differ in the world, but even if they varied wildly, there must be some ISO norm for how to write numbers. And it could be implemented as an option in settings - "add spaces to phone numbers automatically" or you could choose prefered format from some list.

Since phone numbers are accepted with spaces (and work fine) if you sync your contacts, a workaround is to edit your numbers in another application.

In my case, outlook adds always a space after the country code.
