The Google Chrome browser (On Android of course) doesn't work. Well, it starts up, but it can't render pages.

Is this caused by some missing functionality on Alien-Dalvik's part? If yes, then what. I can only guess that it would be caused by not having the render engine, but that doesn't really make sense, as it either would need to use the Android default engine, or be bundled in the APK.

Before it was not working for me too. Now I tested on Sailfish 1.1.1.27 with Chrome 34.0.1847.114 and it works.

Chrome 43 has stopped working with 1.1.7.24 Björnträsket update. It worked well for the last year or so.

Hello !

Android virtual machine on the Jolla (the so called alien-dalvik) do not provide a perfect Android compatibility, and Google Chrome might be a tricky app indeed. Several reasons can occur

  • Alien Dalvik is not providing a feature required for Google Chrome (like access to a sensor or something like that)
  • Google Chrome requires some Google specific library that is not in the Android Open Source Project. Alien Dalvik is built on the Android Open Source Project, and do not bundle Google's proprietary services. You might need to install (for example) Google Play services (see this)
  • There is a bug in Alien Dalvik.

It's not the lack of Google Play services, as I do already have them installed, so I think it might be a bug in the alien-dalvik
