currently running android apps are ugly on the home screen, besides that the covers have no use.

couldn't it be changed like to have a configurable app cover for android apps.

options could be to fade out the app cover matching the ambiance, show status of app( e.g. online/ unread messages) and add a cover action for instance refresh, or what ever this could plug into depending on the app

Covers work on Sailfish OS side, and Sailfish can send only limited amount of commands to Android apps. Selecting actions that would be common to all Android apps might work, but there are not too many possibilities:

  • close (already done, hold+release)
  • bring to front (already done, just with a tap)
  • update snapshot (already discussed here)

Status idea in the question is app dependent, so not possible. Fade out (/make transparent) is not necessary. As there are not much more features to add except the snapshot update, I suggest that this question could be closed as "too localized" or "irrelevant", no matter how great it would be to have all the app dependent actions there too

I don't agree, I try to get some creative solutions on here, why close. I think there should be possibilities to make the android app covers more attractive

I find them very attractive closed :) (just joking, you might be right as well - let's see)

As desirable as that is, it would mean the cover will need to be able to feed an action to the app. Each app is different and hence you cannot set a list of default actions to feed it.

Even with native apps the developers decide the action the covers use

wouldn't it be possible to enable this for the android apps that are available via the jolla store, so a dev could add the cover interactions and appearance

@teun, then you're talking about sailfishos specific extensions to the android environment. If developers want to make their apps better on sailfishos they can write a native app

This is technically possible, but only when Jolla, or should I say the company behind Alien Dalvik, implements external Intent triggering.

If we have intents we can potentially customize a cover to a given app, being able to activate some actions through an intent triggered by the cover gestures.
