Can we have a USB 3.1 Type-C port please? Reversible USB should be much longer lasting than traditional USB ports which can be broken/damaged easily. Also, it would be ideal to have USB 3.0 for improved data transfer.

+1, and fully possible, I think. Forbes tells us that Type-C will launch before the end of the year and mass adoption should begin as soon as early 2015. I believe that it'll be the time of Jolla Tablet too!

By the way, should you add feature-request tag to this?

Type-C is more expensive, but it could double as a AV interface.

Reversible USB sounds like the next best thing after bacon.

What do you mean by double as a AV interface? Comment instead of answering?

Thanks for the proposal. While the HW is kind of pretty much defined that does not mean that we can't at least try to ask our partner what can be done :)

So we are collecting all your suggestions (HW and SW) and going back and forth to verify what is possible, impossible, cheap and very expensive and will do what we can within the limitations we have. Keep'em coming.

what a pity this didn't make it into the list of additional funding goals :-( type-C USB is far more important to me than the listed 3 (first of all because of the possibility to implement video-out with it)

my opinion is the same too, the usb type c hardware should be anyway in the tablet. for may is still possible to make this light redesign

From what I understand, in order to use display port or MHL 3 over USB type-c would require the use of alt-modes. This feature in turn requires the use of a USB 3.1 controller, of which there are pretty much none at the moment (Synopsis has one but it probably requires quite a bit of power and costs a lot more). It's still possible to use a type-c on a USB 2.0 port (the new Nokia N1 does this), but you won't have the alt-modes needed for video out. I guess the old MHL system would still work but pretty much all adapters are made to work with micro-usb ports. The Jolla Tablet would benefit the most from a type-c port if it does not have any conventional MHL to begin with however.

I really love to see an USB host port like the OpenPandora has

It's so usefull, if you could connect USB sticks, gamepads, NICs, and all kind of hackish peripherials :-)

There's no point, you can get microusb to full-size usb adaptors, plus the shell would have to be thicker to accommodate it.

You should make a new feature-request for this and interested people will vote for it, you are certainly not alone wishing for USB host mode.

That's one of the most essential features for me too. But the specs at http://jolla.com/tablet (now?) say "Micro-USB OTG", so I hope USB host mode is confirmed.

USB is really good idea! I have it myself..) So, pointing to the feature, please, use USB Type-C for the 2015 Jolla Tablet!

Jolla Roadmapping Meeting - Friday 16.01.2015

Thank you for your contribution to the Jolla Tablet project!

We receive a lot of ideas and suggestions, which we are grateful for, but all of them can't be implemented. We've reviewed your idea and unfortunately it is not something we can implement, at least right now.

However, we will keep all suggestions, and might revisit this decision in the future if we see an opportunity to implement this feature-request in an upcoming product/SW release.

Best regards,
The Jolla Tablet Team

While Jolla had to redesign some parts of the Tablet to solve the display issues they reconsidered to add the requested USB micro-C type connector, but they were not able to add this feature to the new prototyp like mentioned on Jolla's Blog post:

Unfortunately we could not go with USB micro-C type connector, due to limited availability.
