Dude! That would be awesome. Just some sort of mini HDMI or something would be nice. Not sure if it is easy to do, but I'd certainly like to use the nice screen as an external monitor from my laptop every now and then. Any possibilities to make a mode for bypassing the unit itself and just use the screen?

@Steffn, You're talking about video input. The interface in question here is video output from the tablet.

Hmm...But I think, people are slowly shifting to use streaming solutions like Chromecast...

I think the ability to connect to a screen or a projector is integral to have in a tablet. It would be a valuable feature if the tablet had MHL support and / or the ability to connect to a projector perhaps by supporting the microhdmi to vga converters / adapters and WiDi.Accessories already exist, it would only need the support. WiDi is great, but it can be very slow at times when you are trying to make a live presentation.

Intel Z3700 also supports Intel WiDi which is another feature that needs to be enabled! It is based on Miracast - and compatible!

I vote for a separate HDMI connector, because I would like to be able to use USB devices (keyboards, memory sticks) and HDMI-out at the same time. To my understanding MHL (HDMI out) is either or. Either the micro-USB is operating as a USB host (for connecting USB peripherals to the tablet) or then it's operating as MHL (for video out), but not both at the same time.

UPDATE 12.12.2014
Don't be thrown into a weapons conflict between connecting display via wired or wireless technologies. These "new" wireless screencasting technologies are nearly completely software-side solutions, so they practically already exist whatever the hardware.

"I want it to transform to an aircraft carrier when I hit the Vol+ key twice" - HDMI out gets less important with wireless display technology but please feel free to ask for a serial-port too!

@chemist Surely multiple attached devices isn't too much to hope for in the near future? The idea of connecting a Thunderbolt hub with HDMI, USB + that connects to a single port on a tablet giving video out and USB fits for what @ping is suggesting. "Wireless is the only way to go" is still an opinion and one which is still derided in many arenas also. Isn't that a part of the whole Jolla concept too? Not doing it just because the industry says so.

@chemist I was hoping it could transform into a Motorola Lapdock - and that - without any button presses. I'm not really a car- or an aircraft-person. Please keep in mind that (unless I've critically misunderstood) Jolla devices are not supposed to be yet another run-of-the-mill consumer devices. Users should not be limited to browsing facebook and playing games on their devices, but to able to do something productive as well.

Let me put this straight... I want a transformer... thought you get the joke. Like the ASUS Transformer, Tablet and Netbook with a serial-port too.

Having both at the same time will be awesome, but I will be happy if at least I can use video out, so I can use the tablet to load internet content into the TV screen.

Jolla Roadmapping Meeting - Friday 16.01.2015

Thank you for your contribution to the Jolla Tablet project!

We receive a lot of ideas and suggestions, which we are grateful for, but all of them can't be implemented. We've reviewed your idea and unfortunately it is not something we can implement, at least right now.

However, we will keep all suggestions, and might revisit this decision in the future if we see an opportunity to implement this feature-request in an upcoming product/SW release.

Best regards,
The Jolla Tablet Team
