It would be nice if the Jolla tablet & smartphone could be paired together (over NFC/Bluetooth/WiFi/etc.) so that user can easily send data (links, pictures, documents, arbitrary data files), messages (SMS) or even sessions (calls, IM sessions) between the two devices. For an example how this could work like see how this was done for the late webOS pairing between the HP TouchPad tablet and Pre smartphones.

Yes, please! I was about to suggest the same thing. My Veer worked just great with my Touchpad - sending SMS, calling, sharing links and pictures. It would be great if the API was open so any app could take advantage of it.

Hey,

in my opinion it should be possible to work on both, the Jolla Tab and the Jolla Phone simultaneously.

As given choice the user could have...

Sync:

Calendar
Contacts
cached Emails
folders (with folder picker context), this already includes all media and documents so no extras here
apps (same apps on set devices)
app content (browser-tabs, msg-history)
app control (write sms/mms, start a call, see incoming)

Direction and behaviour should be by item, might be tricky to setup from the start but once you decide what should be where you are good to go.

I realy like the Idea. I think the latest Samsungs can do exactly that. (You can even screen-share)!

Thank you for the good suggestions, it is a good-to-have feature on Jolla products in general. We need to sit down with our designers and developers to brainstorm how we could achieve the syncing between devices. Our initial thoughts have been to explore SyncML, UPNP/DLNA integration and Miracast support. Finishing the basics for supporting tablet support and OS scalability is our top priority right now. In anycase, we'll update you when we have gathered our thoughts around this feature. Adding roadmap tag.

WOHOO roadmap ;) about the implementation, syncML and UPNP/DLNA sound like playback and syncing only, what about the actual session?

You could check how BlackBerry PlayBook tablet could be connected to original BlackBerry (pre-BB10) phones using 'Bridge' software:

BlackBerry® Bridge™ allows you to pair you BlackBerry® smartphone with a BlackBerry® PlayBook™ tablet to: •Use your smartphone's keyboard, trackpad and touchscreen to remotely control your PlayBook™ tablet. •Browse the web on your tablet using your existing BlackBerry® smartphone's connection, if supported by your wireless service provider. •Get access to your email, calendar, contacts, memopad, tasks and BBM – all on the large tablet display.

There are lots of example videos on the web to take inspiration from.

Food for thought: https://community.kde.org/KDEConnect

KDE Connect is a Qt written method of pairing phones and desktops to send files, share clipboard, send notifications and such. So is a possible standard to use for Jolla to Jolla to Desktop type operations.

They also mention an android, blackberry, and iOS client, so it may also be useful for owners of android tablets, ipads, iphones and such
